File this one underneath the words “Long Time Coming”: After a nearly eight year absence Dexter, everyone’s favorite serial killer with a heart of gold (and a seriously conflicted Dark Passenger), is finally making a mucho awaited comeback in the form of a revival limited series from Showtime. We’ve known that much for some time now and, along the way, we’ve had interesting tidbits revealed regarding casting for the new series and a few minor plot details. But, being the insatiable lot we are, we’ve all been clamoring for a full-length trailer that might go a bit beyond the one or two “teaser” images that have been sparingly fed to us. Well, rest easy Dexter-holics; have we got a treat for you…
Dropped today and announced by our forensic lab geek buddies over at The Hollywood Reporter is the first full-length trailer for Showtime’s 10 episode Dexter revival which is officially going under the title of Dexter: New Blood. You can view that bloody brilliant trailer right here and, after taking a few moments to collect yourself (no drooling on the computer screen, kiddies), let your peeper’s scroll down to our next paragraph of information.
Whew, right?!? Now that’s a trailer! Set to drop on Showtime this November 7, Dexter: New Blood takes place nearly a decade after Miami Metro blood spatter analyst Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) faked his own death and high-tailed it out to parts unknown. The new series finds Dexter as the proprietor of – appropriately enough – a sporting goods store and living under an assumed name, his old life very much a thing of the past…or so he thinks; for Dexter just wouldn’t be the same without the classic cat and mouse game the serial killer has been known to engage in (plus, you know, we wouldn’t have much of a series without that particular trope). This iteration of the series sees a potential Big Bad adversary in the form of awesome character actor Clancy Brown (Shawshank Redemption), a true-crime podcaster hot on Dexter Morgan’s trail and the return of some familiar faces such as Arthur Miller (perhaps Dexter’s most cunning – and lucky – foe, brilliantly essayed by Emmy winner John Lithgow) and Dexter’s sister Debra (Jennifer Carpenter, always a treat). Also along for the ten episode ride are accomplished thespians Julia Jones, Alano Miller, Johnny Sequoyah, Jack Alcott, Jamie Chung, Oscar Wahlberg and Katy Sullivan.
Excited yet? Grab your rocks and pray for socks, Dexter fans…Come November 7, 2021 only on Showtime Dexter: New Blood promises to be a wild ride indeed.
