Trio of Brilliance: Damon Lindelof, Matt Reeves and Oscar Sharp Unite for Upcoming HBO Max Medical Drama

Wanna know what the Hollywood equivalent is to an N** All-Stars team? Look no further then Dear and Constant Reader to the breaking news from our groovy compatriots over at Variety of the teaming of three of the best talents the entertainment industry has to offer for an upcoming HBO Max medical drama series. The three gremlins in question are none other than Damon Lindelof (Lost, The Leftovers), Matt Reeves (The Batman) and Oscar Sharp (who controversially helmed the first feature film apparently written entirely by an AI program, Sunspring) who have all joined forces to bring us the new show The Human Conditions.

The Human Conditions – described by publicity as a “magical-realist” endeavor – is about a young British doctor tasked with treating illnesses and the emotional baggage that comes with them that most regard as hopeless or impossible; and you thought you had a tough job…

This new HBO Max series originates out of Matt Reeves’ production house 6th & Idaho, with an able assist from industry stalwarts Warner Bros. Television and Brightstar. Daniel Pipski and Rafi Crohn from 6th & Idaho will serve as executive producers on The Human Conditions alongside Lindelof, Sharp and Reeves, with Sharp taking on the extra duties of writing and directing. Executive producing honors for the new show fall to Tanya Seghatchian of The Crown fame and John Woodward, himself no stranger to high-end Hollywood productions as is evidenced with his work on The Cold War.

All three creative gurus behind The Human Conditions are in high-demand at the moment, making this assemblage of talent even more of a coup for streaming platform HBO Max: Lindelof has a deep and rich history with HBO in the form of his critically lauded and fan-celebrated work on the network’s adaptation of The Watchmen (where he served as showrunner for the Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons comic book property) and he’s got tons of work in the pipeline, notably with the buzzed about drama he co-created with Tara Hernandez which is headed to Peacock even as I type these deathless words. Matt Reeves is the fixation of Hollywood at the moment with his anticipated franchise flick The Batman which is forthcoming. As for Oscar Sharp, this new series from HBO Max represents a new chapter of output for the visionary director who has given audiences movies such as The Karman Line and Zone Out.

No details on actors attached to star in The Human Conditions (might I be as bold to suggest Jude Law or Jonathan Rhys-Meyers for the role of the doctor? Both men are consummate thespians and, in 2021, woefully underused.) or an announced release date, but keep those stethoscopes tuned to Vents for any and all updates on this promising new series!
