Kynia Thrower is a healthcare worker, and the duties of healthcare work take up most of her time. In her spare time, she dedicates her time to the community and shares tips about how to better the personal lives of others and lead a more fulfilling life on her personal website.
In this interview with Kynia Thrower, she discusses the importance of giving back to the community and how dedicating your time to the service of others can help you lead a more fulfilling and complete life.
Kynia Thrower’s mantra is: be kind, be patient and be loving.
“I do everything for my patients from feeding them to making sure they get their meds on time and keeping them company when they feel lonely.”
That is not to say that Kynia’s job is easy. As a healthcare worker, she is no stranger to physically demanding work shifts and long work hours. Regardless, she makes an effort to always put her best foot forward when it comes to her job and everything she does.
“I treat my patients like I treat my family,” says Thrower.
In fact, it was the family that had originally convinced Kynia Thrower to become a healthcare worker and a homebound aid. When Kynia was younger, she would care regularly for her grandmother. As she got older, Kynia learned to love caring for her and new that she would find work as a healthcare worker both fulfilling and satisfying.
Kynia Thrower says that her patients all have different needs and one of the skills she developed on the job is learning how to interpret and serve the needs of others.
Kynia recalls one patient that she sings for every time she goes to work. “She always smiles and claps along because she is going deaf in one ear,” says Kynia Thrower.
Aside from her day-to-day duties as a homebound caretaker, Kynia Thrower also volunteers in her local community. She purchases and cooks food for the homeless and gets together with a group of friends to buy and give clothing to people in need.
“It’s important for me to give back to the community because this is my home and everyone here is my family,” says Thrower.
“If someone isn’t doing well, I feel like we should come together as a community and help them with the bare minimum like food and clothing. I want to remind people in my community that blessings are real and overcoming storms is possible.”
“I want to show them that I am someone who has also overcome difficult circumstances and has been able to lead a successful life.”
Kynia Thrower says her favourite part of her career, and one of the most rewarding things she does in her personal life is to put a smile on the face of others.
One of the reasons why Kynia works in the healthcare industry is to motivate others and convince them that it’s possible to live a happy and fulfilling life no matter their circumstances.
