Emerging Australian music artist TIA has just released Talk About It, the track that will undoubtedly propel the gifted 17-year-old singer-songwriter into the next level of her blossoming career. Triple J Unearthed has called her ‘a Melbourne powerhouse with her mind-blowing vocal chops, with comparisons to pop icons like Bishop Briggs and Dua Lipa.’ Talk About It is an impactful contemporary RnB pop crossover track featuring irresistible hooks, a timely, poignant lyric about self-expression, all merged into a three-minute exhilarating ride by TIA’s compelling vocal performance. Drawing on her passion for music nurtured from a young age and her recent touring stints with Tones and I as part of her backing choir, TIA has navigated her way through a period of self-reflection to arrive at Talk About It. A moving chord sequence introduces the verses, restrained and in a low register but no less affecting, creating the right foundation from which the song can intensify, which it does. The pre-chorus sections are as finely wrought and considered as the verses, with strong melodic centres and enough variance in texture and rhythmic accompaniment that its contrast with the chorus is effective. When the first chorus happens, the track opens up, with a combination of supercharged beats, lush vocal layers and mood evoking pad sounds, all contributing to a potent mix. The overall production does justice to the song’s hooks and direct lyric, and most importantly, TIA’s voice, as it glides over the track with effortless grace and soulful energy. As she says about the song’s origins, ‘I feel we have all normalised hiding the pain away pretending to be okay and not talking about the negativity that we can get consumed by. I want ‘talk about it’ to show even though we have lows and negative internal thoughts that it’s okay to have tough moments and to actually talk about how difficult things are.’ The desire to heal, to reach out is evident on Talk About It. As TIA says, ‘I want the audience to feel something when they listen to my music.’ And feel it they will. Talk About It will undoubtedly attract attention across all streaming platforms and radio playlists.
