THE FLAMING LIPS ‘THE SOFT BULLETIN COMPANION’ OUT THIS FRIDAY 7/16 + NYE SHOWS ADDED!

Today, multiple GRAMMY® Awards-winners The Flaming Lips release The Soft Bulletin Companion around the world for the first time since it originally appeared since 1999. One of the rarest and most sought-after gems in their legendary catalog, The Flaming Lips finally release The Soft Bulletin Companion on CD, digital and vinyl widely for the first time. After the initial June 12th Record Store Day Edition sold out instantly, fans can finally hear this collection of rare tracks issued as a Promo Only limited CD-R 22 years ago. The Soft Bulletin Companion was assembled by Lips’ management by hand and distributed to radio, press, family, and friends in and extremely limited quantity to accompany the band’s groundbreaking album The Soft Bulletin in 1999. It consisted of unreleased material, outtakes, early mixes, B-sides, international bonus tracks, and stereo versions of tunes from Zaireeka. Expanding the lore of this hidden treasure trove are The Captain” and “1000 ft. Hands,” both emerged as fan favorites and yet never saw a release — until now. “1000 ft. Hands (early mix)” is exclusive to this release. Click here to order now.

The Soft Bulletin represented a watershed moment in the group’s journey. Powered by signature tracks such as “Race for the Prize, Pitchfork notably rated it a perfect score of 10.0 and pegged it at #3 on the “Top 100 Albums of the 1990s. Entertainment Weekly awarded the album an “A, and NME scored it “9-out-of-10.” It closed out the 20th century for the band and paved the way into the 21st century, setting the stage for three subsequent GRAMMY® Awards, sales in the millions, and unprecedented innovation. One of the most important albums of all time and a turning point, it cemented the group as an iconic alternative institution and asserted them as a perennial creative presence in popular culture. The Soft Bulletin Companion is available now via Warner Records.

As previously announced, The Flaming Lips have added a pair of New Year’s Eve shows in Pelham, Tennessee, underground at The Caverns on December 30th and 31st. Tickets are on sale now. The Lips first played The Caverns during the subterranean venue’s inaugural year on New Year’s Eve 2018.

Today, July 13th at 11:00AM CT, The Caverns will release 2-day VIP overnight packages including lodging, safe transportation from area hotels to the venue and back, access to a pit up close to the stage for the best views of the show, commemorative merchandise, and more. These VIP overnight packages make trip planning easy, especially since rideshare companies don’t service the beautiful, rural area surrounding The Caverns. An additional VIP package without lodging and 2-night general admission tickets will also be released on July 13th.

“To celebrate 2019, hundreds of helium balloons filled with confetti were released and floated up to the stalactites whereupon they met their demise—the cave rained confetti for hours! It was a night of unbridled joy, whimsy and spirit that only The Flaming Lips could deliver,” says The Caverns owner Todd Mayo. “We cannot wait to see what’s in store this year!”

Wayne Coyne, The Flaming Lips lead singer, musing on preparations for 2018’s underground show, added with tongue-in-cheek, “We were a little worried that the low low sub bass frequencies would maybe crack the giant hollow rocks and cause the cavern to collapse in on us while we were playing. But the promoters told us that the aliens, who carved out the cave (10 million years ago), did shows there for 500 years without any problems, we thought, ‘oh cool!’ Let’s party!”

Single night packages and tickets will be released at a later date pending availability. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit this webpage.
