INTERVIEW: Azariel Fly

When it comes to embedding a whole array of varying emotions into tracks, few do it in novel ways like the burgeoning talented singer, Azariel Fly.

His last body of work, the eight-minute Space/Time/Reality had him speaking about present-day problems streaking around most Gen Z on a framework of guitar tones and bouncy drums.

It is a few months after that and Azariel Fly is out with another cinematic release. Titled “Oxytocin”, the track opens with sombre piano keys and aided by swelling synths and moody vocal drops, Azariel enters the fray with his glossy vocals. With a strength for describing his experiences and making his intentions known, Azariel’s verses find the grooves in between the funky percussive rhythm, as he raps about wanting to show off his love interest.

Oxytocin is a glide between Alt-pop, funk and trap soul as Azariel presents his affectionate self sounding raw and intimate on the delightful key-mashing beat.

Hi Azariel, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

good thank you!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “oxytocin”?

yeah oxytocin is a r&b / dancehall track based off the hormone that with empathy, trust, sexual activity and sensual sensations. it’s a perfect summer night vibe.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

it was written during the middle of a breakup , i originally made it to be released earlier in the year but life happened & the song repurposed itself.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

yes , working on it right now!

How was the recording and writing process?

the recording took place in my home studio in LA

i prefer to record alone , BLA was new to the recording process so I would stay and guide her through the takes . writing came quick , didn’t really overthink the lyrics , i knew what i wanted to say and how the song needed to feel .

What was it like to work with BLA and how did that relationship develop?

BLA has been a long time friend of mine , so it didn’t take long for her to get comfortable around me even though it’s our first collaboration.

How much did he get to influence the song?

BLA came up with the flow for the hook on the first night we worked on it, it was so natural. from there i wrote the whole song around it & came up with the concept of oxytocin, which was later implemented into the hook lyrics.

Do you tend to take a different approach when collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own?

yeah, i’m more patient and open when it comes to collaborations , i got this personal radar in my mind for what ideas i should trust to when i need to take more control .

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes there’s more singles to be released in the summer , and right now i’m working on my first album.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

No release date, but the title is BOI VOYAGE

What else is happening next in Azariel Fly’s world?

More concerts, more music, more videos, & new collaborations.
