‘drink my soul’ is a portfolio of singer and songwriter leo.’s contrasting musical offerings from his early childhood classical music roots to au courant stylistics. It’s soaked in relationship motifs; all varying from personal, romantic, and his communication with the world. The EP inaugurates with “mean,” written by leo in 2018. and produced by Lily Sturt-Bolshaw, and encompasses leo.’s signature ukulele progressions and ariose piano. The word “mean” fills in the body of verb, and then adjective, to convey the song’s overall story which smoothly makes way for ‘drink my soul’s’ second slot.

leo. shares:”‘drink my soul’ is a collection of original songs I’ve written over the last 3 years, all of them about my relationship with myself, other people, and the world. Songwriting is a form of therapy for me, and after moving to the UK last September, after not having released anything for over a year and a half, I knew I was ready and had enough material to release something I was really proud of. Developing this project has been one of the best learning experiences of my life and each song represents something very meaningful to me. I’m very proud of the work everyone involved has put into it and I’m so glad I’m sharing so much of my soul with whoever wants to listen.”

“dancing in the corner” fills the EP’s second slot and hosts a sonic landscape that is akin to the one that comes before. leo. sings of the entanglement of an amorous feeling that’s enclosed with barbed wire, but exposed with flaw singing, “Hold on to my flaws like they are your own, see my tears run down your spine, I know I’ll never call you mine.” Next, “heartbreak.” “heartbreak” is an avant-garde depiction of playing a losing game with your heart. The heartache embraces melodic piano coupled with a harmonious backing of strings and cutting-edge vocals. “soul of steam” rolls off of “mean” and “dancing in the corner’s” tongue as it sustains the ukulele’s distinction. Also produced by Lily Sturt-Bolshaw, the lyrics pass through a series of questions being, “what is fiction?”, “what is real?”,  “what is fit for me to feel?” “two for too long,” produced by Edmund Allen and written by leo., closes out the five-song EP.

This one is laced with honest lyricism, supported with a shy dose of percussion. leo.’s vocal delivery is overwhelmingly emotive throughout the entire body of work but hits a little bit closer to home as ‘drink my soul’ comes to an end. ‘drink my soul” was birthed at Leeds Conservatory during leo.’s first year of schooling  and was warmly welcomed into his dedicated loyal fan’s hands.

Desiring to “connect with [his] audience on a deeper level”, leo. draws from his own life experience to create his catchy melodies and lyrics; combining a variety of stylistic elements to form his unique and authentic sound that has been described as “eclectic” and “vulnerable”.

‘drink my sole’ is out today via all digital outlets.
