INTERVIEW: Eva Under Fire

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Blow”?

The song is fun and has a TON of attitude. It’s always been one of our favorites on the new record. Now we’re even more excited because Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills jumped on the track!!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

We’ve always written very meaningful songs. I guess we just wanted to challenge ourselves to step outside of our comfort zone with this one.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

YES! Not only is Spencer featured on the song, this track was also chosen to be part of the upcoming film The Retaliators. I’m excited to share the video for “Blow” because I think it will surprise a lot of people. It was filmed on the movie set, which was a pretty awesome experience.

How was the recording and writing process?

Very different than what we’re used to! Sometimes it felt like everything just fell into place and other times we were reminding ourselves to breathe and not throw things. But all the hard work was worth it. This whole record is absolute fire.

What was it like to work with Spencer Charnas and how did that relationship develop?

Spencer is actually our Retaliators co-star. We met at a Zoom meeting round table event talking about the film. When we sent him the track, his creative brain dove right in. He had this cool idea about his feature being sang from the perspective of his character in the film. I love it!

How much did he get to influence the song?

When Spencer suggested taking his characters perspective, the whole mood shifted from playful to dangerous which I think is an awesome concept.

With this being set for a film – did you take this in consideration when writing or producing the song?

No actually. We had no idea this song would be used in the film until after it was written.

Do you guys tend to take a different approach when collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own?

Not really. We kind of invite them into our process. The chemistry changes naturally to accommodate another creative mind.

What role does Detroit play in your music?

Home is where the heart is, and we wrote from the heart. I think eras like Motown and Detroit Rock City kept us encouraged to chase our dream.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Absolutely! The full album is coming soon!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

We’ll be revealing details very soon.

What else is happening next in Eva Under Fire’s world?

Simple, pinky. We tour and take over the world!
