Upcoming Film “Disappointment Blvd” Should Be Retitled “Awesome Blvd” with Cast Announced to Include Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Ryan, Nathan Lane

When it comes to movies, I’m no Johnny-Come-Lately fair weather fan, particularly if I’m a fan of a specific actor or a film series. I’ll literally sit through not only the highest highs of a performance, but will also endure the lowliest of the lows, all in support of a thespian I firmly believe in. How else to explain my head-scratching film library which includes not only the likes of Citizen Kane and The Godfather, but also such questionable fare as Dream a Little Dream 2 and Jersey Girl? The above might be good news if you’re the producer of a new Friday the 13th flick or a casting agent who just dropped the FeldDog (that’s Mr. Corey Feldman to you, Dear and Constant Reader) into an upcoming movie. It’s certainly bad news for my bruised and battered wallet as I put down my hard earned clams for what cinematically is the equivalent of a game of Russian roulette; God only knows what I’m going to get. This spiel comes to mind today because of my love of both Amy Ryan and Joaquin  Phoenix performances and the news from those crazy kids over at Deadline about the casting that’s shaping up for the new film Disappointment Blvd.

Alright, first things first: What exactly is Disappointment Blvd. and how can watching it make you a better person? According to word ‘round campfire, this upcoming Ari Aster (Midsommar) written and directed feature film is about as mysterious as the current day whereabouts of actor Frank Whaley (We miss you Frank; come back to us!). To wit and in broadest possible terms: Disappointment Blvd. is “an intimate, decades-spanning portrait of one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time.” Full stop. Aster has played coy about specifics, teasing at one point that the film – or was the auteur alluding to another potential project? –  was a “nightmare comedy.” Make of that what you will, Ladies and gents; you pays your money and you takes your chances.

The good news is that we do have some inkling of the official cast signed up for the project, and it’s a pip: Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Ryan, Nathan Lane, Patti LuPone and Kylie Rogers are all now confirmed as cast members for Disappointment Blvd.

This tin-eared journalist would follow most of these actors into any number of Michael Bay or Fast and Furious movies; that’s how much I admire their craft. Let’s just all hold our collective breath and pray we don’t get an unofficial Dream a Little Dream 3 out of these particular proceedings.

Keep those peepers peeled to Vents for all updates on the upcoming film Disappointment Blvd.
