Six-piece indie-rock ensemble Lakes have shared their newest single “Matches.” Stream here: https://orcd.co/matcheslakes. The track features dreamy vocals from glockenspiel player and keyboardist Blue Jenkins, and addresses the volatile political discourse that has occurred over the past few years. Vocalist and guitarist Robert Cappellina elaborates: “Watching the way political discourse has played out over the past few years and the tension that comes with polarising views – it’s exhausting. No one wants to be proven wrong. There’s a need for space to have real conversations with each other and to listen. This song is about reaching out to have those conversations.”
“Matches” is drawn from Lakes’ sophomore album, Start Again, due out July 30 on Know Hope Records (US), Big Scary Monsters (UK) and Friend Of Mine Records (Japan). Recorded over the course of nine months and various lockdowns—and produced and mixed by Neil Strauch (Owen, Owls, Joan Of Arc, Slow Mass)—Start Again is a testament of the human condition, as it explores themes such as mental health, addiction, break-ups and cutting out toxic friends.
