INTERVIEW: Lucy & La Mer

Hi Lucy, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’m doing surprisingly well considering how much the world has changed this last year. Feeling grateful and optimistic!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Ohh La La”?

My newest song is a fun track about stepping into your power and feeling super confident.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I think we could all you a confidence boost coming back into the world this summer. I wrote this song with Cliff Magreta and Jack Duff. They’re both fantastic at creating anthemic, feel-good choruses. And I wanted to sing something that would empower both me and my audience.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

Yes! We just released a colorful dance video. It features local LA creatives and plays with the theme of how we start feeling confident when we see others feeling confident.

How was the recording and writing process?

I always love recording vocals. It’s very therapeutic for me to be in a small quiet room just singing my heart out. This song in particular is really freeing, too. Because I don’t actually feel that confident on a daily basis, but singing the lyrics “There’s nothing in our way” and “I’m exactly who I want to be” felt really good.

With the large reception from your previous musical work has received – do you feel any pressure as you work on new music or rather the opposite?

I definitely want my fans to feel like they know me. But I don’t necessarily try to recreate what I’ve already done. The sound and genre of my music can bend quite a bit (from folk to pop) but I’m always authentic in the message I’m sending. It all comes form what I’m going through at the time.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes. I’m excited to release new originals, plus a new collaboration is on the way.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Look for a new ep in the fall!

What else is happening next in Lucy & La Mer’s world?

I’ve started doing monthly live concerts online. There’s a new theme each month and I’ll be bringing in special guests throughout the year! You can sign up on Patreon.com/lucyandlamer.
