INTERVIEW: Lenny The Heart

Hi Lenny, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I am well! Just a bit anxious that the world is opening back up again and haven’t practiced my live set enough.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Party Animal”?

“Party Animal” is a song written by Julio Argueta (best friend and longtime music collaborator) Rannan Adler (instrumentalist) and I. We first recorded a demo of the song In 2009 and released it on MySpace. However, more recently, I reached out to Julio and Rannan and let them know that this song means more to me now than ever! I fell head over heels for a person who is repeatedly in some sort of party environment and under the influence. So I told them that I wanted to rewrite and re-record and they were cool about it.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

It didn’t have meaning back when we wrote the 09 demo. We were way young and just using our vast imagination to write songs. I just feel strongly about it now because the girl I want is a Party Animal.

Any plans to release any music video for the track?

I recently released the lyric video but when it comes to an official video I want it to

Be very much invested in. Some Sort of story line and a production company shooting with big cameras and I can’t do that unless I save some money.

The single comes off your new album Rokklenin – what’s the story behind the title?

ROKKLENIN means Lenin’s rock music. I’ve always wanted to do just rock or just an alt sound. I used to be kind of shy to use my singing (pop-rock-alt) voice and now I embrace it. Shouts out to hip hop music though! Love it just as much.

How was the recording and writing process?

Recording and writing the debut EP started about 2019. It was just me wanting to embrace this sort of rock sound of mine and so I would jam on an acoustic guitar and sing. Then I met the Party Animal girl that I want so bad and once I took the Rannan instrumental to a real studio, I absolutely connected with the engineer and loved the sound. I knew it could be huge and I have never been to a real studio in my life until I started recording for ROKKLENIN.

Then the songs just came almost back to back, really naturally; with most records being recorded at SIDE 3 STUDIOS in Denver.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

I got the inspiration for the EP from some old feelings and old situations that I had a hard time dealing with or a hard time letting go of. On “Waiting” I talk about an old lover and a bitter ending relationship but it led to me finding myself again and hitting the road to find a new life in a state 2300 miles away from home. “You Are Not Just Anybody” is another song on the record that brings up older feelings that have been hard to deal; addressing attachment issues I have and confusion/cloudiness while being in romantic relationships . All the events and feelings and soul aching emotions that hit me from 2017-current is what is mostly reflected on this EP. I remember driving state to state and each time as I entered a new state away from Florida I would become very emotional and knew I couldn’t go back home because hitting the road felt like it was healing me. It still does. This EP is also a ode to getting older. As I was recording it the the last couple years I kept telling myself “don’t slack off, you’re getting old Lenin” haha. So I’m glad this is coming out, finally. It’s nice to know that each song here on ROKKLENIN has helped me cope because once they were done recording I felt relieved and it was almost as if after each song was recorded that a negative feeling or bad chapter of my life was put to rest. By the way, the song BILLY THE PIRATE is about Billie Eilish. For Billie Eilish. I discovered her music and felt like I can be so myself and started doing so much local karaoke while recording the EP

What else is happening next in Lenny The Heart’s world?

Next in Lenny the Heart’s world is touring. I am saving for an RV and practicing my live set. I’d also like to create and sell merch. I want to build my personal and business credits so that I can get loans and put thousands into digital marketing for my music; airplane banners, billboards, online ads. Just really pushing Lenny out there. That’s all!

Thanks for listening.
