Singer-songwriter New Mark has released his new laid-back folk-rap tune, “Gutter.” This fun, creative project was made with a team of indie artists and inspired by all the talk and fear surrounding Deepfake technology. Curious if Deepfakes were an actual threat and wanting to have a little fun, New Mark assembled an interdisciplinary team of storytellers, animators, and python developers to create this quirky Deepfake experiment. He set the video to his song “Gutter.”
“The allure of tech and business, or just the pressures of “adulting,” can make you leave your artistic self in the gutter. However, I’ve come to realize the path of a responsible adult and creative dreamer aren’t mutually exclusive. In fact, it’s important for all of us (no matter our fields) to keep our wildest dreams alive because, ultimately, our wildest dreams create the most inspiring missions. Like sending people to Mars. ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if someday he made it work?’”
New Mark’s sound is a fusion of two genres: singer-songwriter and rap, influenced by the music of Kris Kristofferson and The Bee Gees mixed with Lil Dicky and Hobo Johnson. New Mark has a big imagination and is very creative not only with his music but in his music videos as well. This new single is accompanied by a music video that drew inspiration from Elon Musk and influenced New Mark to learn more about Deepfake technology. New Mark took this interest and used it to turn his friend into a semi-realistic Elon Musk for the music video.
”Gutter” was written and produced by New Mark and Kevin Dean, with production help from Mike Sabri. The music video was planned, directed, and produced by New Mark, edited by Casey Mitsch, who also worked on the compositing and motion graphics. Additional editors and contributors for the video include Ryota Suyama, Stanley Zheng, Dave Srock, Kendra Morah, and Remington Riehl.
