Arriving on the 9th of June via on-the-pulse South Coast label and promoters Honeymooner, Southampton trio Mystic Peach have let the mighty A Place To Bury Strangers loose on their recent single ‘Wanna Be My Daddy?’.
Having previously been selected as Jack Saunders’ Next Wave on BBC Radio 1, A Place To Bury Strangers drag the already visceral original into industrial new territory as gothic drum machines clatter with reverb and the undulating bass line sounds even more menacing sped up. Saturated with feedback, the overblown interpretation of the track places its most gnarly parts under a microscope, whilst maintaining its melodic integrity through vocalist and guitarist Curtis Gale’s catchy snarls.
Vocalist/guitarist Oliver Ackermann said of the experience:
“I don’t think I’ve ever remixed a song like this before. Mystic Peach is such a dynamic band, at one moment drifting along and the next ripping your head off. There is so much raw power in “Wanna Be My Daddy?” it was difficult to create something that even compared to its ferocity. It was a real pleasure to collaborate with such talented artists. Mystic Peach definitely has an incredible sound, I will always be curious to check out what they are doing next.”
Curtis Gale expands:“This remix represents our own views on how music should be approached. It sounds like a child was let loose on our track because of the sense of freedom and imagination it holds and grasps your attention. We have a huge respect for A Place To Bury Strangers’ music and achievements both in front and behind the scenes. Oliver is a true hero of noise – from all things APTBS and Death By Audio – always hitting new horizons”
