The Legendary Cannes Film Festival Announces Its Full 2021 Lineup, Including Director Oliver Stone’s Upcoming Follow-up Doc on the Assassination of President Kennedy

When the Cannes Film Festival broke ground and got the ball rolling back in 1946 (after some major hiccups, least of them being a little something known as World War II), few could have imagined it would one day transform into one of the – if not THE  -premiere film festivals in all of the world. But there must have been a glimmer of something in the waters of that glorious French Riviera resort town, as was evidenced by the stellar lineup of film gems that were presented in that freshman year: Brief Encounter, The Lost Weekend and The Last Chance were among that first years offerings and the legend that was Cannes quickly snowballed until it became a one-stop destination for any film looking to find a.) a distributor b.) the cache that recognition from the Festival afforded a movie, or c.) all of the above.

Fast forward to 2021 and, having endured a grueling pandemic, the vaunted Cannes Film Festival is back in business with a whole new slate of hopeful movies vying for your love (and, incidentally, your money). The official lineup was announced today and courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter we at Vents are proud to provide you, Dear and Constant Readers, with the latest crop of Hollywood hopefuls. Of particular note is the premiere of an Oliver Stone film we’ve devoted some ink to in these pages, his long-awaited reexamination of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, an assassination many firmly believe was a conspiracy. It should be interesting to see what reaction surfaces from Stone’s new documentary…
