SINGLE REVIEW: 21st Century Mayhem by THE BUZZ KILLS

The Buzz Kills are your latest 2-piece indie pop-rock sensation, and 21st Century Mayhem is their latest genre-bending megahit. Led by captivating vocalist and songwriter Nathalie Gower, the band, which also features Sam Haberle, takes its musical cues from the 90s and marries them to pure pop-injected hooks—think K-pop meets a drug dealer in a dark laneway. The Buzz Kills are on a winning streak after their Christmas Collaboration with Jam Mountain Music, Light A Candle (all proceeds going to charity) hit, #4 on the ARIA charts, #1 on the Australian Independent Charts and #23 Worldwide. The new track also follows recent singles Liar (2020) and Loving You (2021). As the band says about their creative process, ‘We love telling stories in our songs, and adding sound effects that people can relate to, flat-lining heart machines, and sirens are all cool additions to keep your ears out for in our upcoming releases. We write and record demos in our garage, and do the final recording in supernova studios, Sydney. King Willy who mastered Gotye’s smash hit Somebody masters The Buzz Kills tracks.’ Gower’s blood is no stranger to rock fame—her father is singer/songwriter Richard Gower, lead singer of Racey, writer for Hot Chocolate and others in the 80’s. Nathalie’s eccentricity is matched by Sam’s bass playing energy and do or die approach, a partnership with a hedonistic readiness to take over the world. After dropping their debut single Liar in late 2020, the track gaining instant traction and generating over 120k streams within months, the band is now poised to blow up the world with their 21st Century Mayhem. The new track mixes a colossal chorus with monstrous drum grooves and punch the air, explosive guitars, the urgency of which is only equalled by Gower’s emotionally soaked, combustible vocal performance. Anthemic, hard-hitting and remorselessly irresistible, 21st Century Mayhem is The Buzz Kills’ breakout track. Don’t say you haven’t been warned!
