INTERVIEW: Fauna

Fauna, welcome to VENTS! Can you tell us a little about your latest single, Didn’t Wanna?

Didn’t wanna came from being trapped in lockdown, with us just wanting to have a little fun with what we were writing at the time, all we wanted to do was go for a real pint, this had us thinking of all the nights we went out and it never really lived up to our expectations, it definitely cheered us up to remember these nights.

The track was recorded at Sugar House in St Helens with Lee & Ady, we’ve been working with them since day 1 and they always raise our tracks to another level!

Was there a particular event that inspired the single?

Inspiration came from self pity, all we wanted to do was go out but in reality there were bigger and more important things going on in the world, it felt kind of ignorant and selfish to be worrying about the next pint we’d be able to get our hands on, so we dealt with that by poking fun at ourselves.

How would you sum up your music in three words?

Real, Vibes, Energy.

How do you usually come up with new material?

We try to write whatever we like and hope people like it too, i want to sound like every song i’ve ever loved. We’re not breaking genre boundaries but they’re not something we worry about, I think every song we write has it’s own goals, in message and in sound. Melodically i think our melodies can hold their own and our lyrics, rhythmically and contextually can take their own life within a song and give something different for each listener. The songs come together to create something at least our mums like and we recon if people hear them they will too!

In your opinion, what is key when it comes to creating an anthemic indie earworm?

It’s gotta have heart, it’s got to be something you can sing your heart out to, and it has to make you move!

Who does your music speak to?

I’d like to hope it speaks to everyone, but in reality it’s such a diverse world out there, we represent a very privileged part of it, we just hope we can one day reach everyone who needs some exacapism, some support or just a good time!

Does Manchester influence your sound?

I think it does, wherever you’re living must influence your sound or you’re really not present. Being in somewhere like manchester where the history or music is everywhere and everyone is just waiting for the next oasis can be hard, but once you hear everything thats going on in the grass roots it’s so inspiring.

Do you have any plans for a live tour?

Not yet, we don’t have the fanbase for a live tour yet, we’re growing! But not just yet!

What else can we expect from Fauna in 2021?

Loads! At last we can say that and it be true!

We’ve another single in the pipeline ready and raring to go! We’ve a few shows booked in later on in the year, The first being in Blackpool on July 10th, it’ll be a free entry! We want to make it a real party to remember! And we’re at the Castle in Manchester on August 28th playing with some awesome bands and a few more shows to be announced!
