Duncanville just returned for its second season on FOX. The first season of the animated show was a pleasant surprise for me. Amy Poehler voices Duncan, a run-of-the-mill 15-year-old boy, as well as his mom Annie. The show was created by Poehler, former Simpsons showrunner Mike Scully, and Scully’s wife Julie Thacker Scully. It goes into some absurd places, but at its core it’s got some really sharp joke writing and voiceover work. In fact, after watching two episodes of the second season, my praise is rising even higher.
I am beginning to think that Duncanville is already the third-best animated primetime show that FOX has brought us. The top two are, of course, The Simpsons and Futurama. Those are my two favorite shows full stop. Nothing is messing with them. However, Duncanville may now be my third favorite. I’ve never been a big Bob’s Burgers fan. I don’t like the animation style at all. Family Guy would be the choice for many, but I am on the other side of that polarizing show. Honestly, I think American Dad is better than Family Guy, but not as good as Duncanville.

The only show that competes is The Critic, but it only aired one season on FOX. It was also the second season, which isn’t quite as good as the first. As such, I will say that, yes, already I will declare Duncanville the third-best animated show from FOX. Oh, I should have also mentioned King of the Hill, which is a good show. That one rounds out my top five I guess. The real question then becomes if Duncanville is the third-best Sunday night show from FOX. Did That ‘70s Show air on Sundays? I feel like it did? However, that’s a debate for another time. For now, let me just recommend watching Duncanville if you haven’t already.
