Sugar Free Cookies: Is It Possible?

More than ever before, we are concerned about the amount of sugar in our diet. If you can, you should do your best to cut back on sugar.

That does not mean that you are not going to crave something sweet from time to time. But, did you know that it is easier than you may think to switch your favorite cookie recipes to sugar-free?

How To Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth

Satisfying your sweet tooth with something rather than sugar is something that you can still do. Most importantly, you should explore natural sweet options. Thankfully, removing sugar from cookie recipes is not expensive.

Fruits are naturally sweet. When your favorite cookie or cake recipe calls for sugar, you could consider adding fruit instead.

Apples taste great as part of most cookie recipes. But, before you dive in and grate up an apple, why not look around the supermarket for food items made from apples? Using ready made apple products can save you a lot of time.

For instance, fruit or apple compote is a great way of adding sweetness to almost any cake or cookie.

Fruit compotes are ready-made. All you have to do is to add them to your cake or cookie mixture. Another advantage is that they add flavour to your cookies. Top your mixture up with cinnamon and you have a cookie fit for any occasion.

Baking With Stevia

In recent years, cooking and baking with stevia has become very popular. You can now buy this natural sugar replacement product in the supermarket.

The only downside of stevia is that it is hard to get the amount right. For every cup of sugar, all you have to do is to add one teaspoon of stevia. It is a very sweet substance. Unless you get the measurements right, your cookies may just end up too sweet.

Also, stevia does not work with all other ingredients that you may want to add to your cookies recipes. It tastes horrible together with chocolate and does not go very well with vanilla either. If you are planning a tea party for your friends, it is best to experiment with your favorite recipes beforehand.

Here is a top tip for you. If you are planning to add frosting or icing to your cookies, stevia is not going to work.

What About Pineapple?

Another alternative is to add pineapple juice. It is naturally sweet and blends well with other flavors. When you bake with pineapple juice, it does have a tendency to become even sweeter.

Using fresh pineapple may be a better idea. It all depends on your recipe. Pineapple often tastes great with other fresh fruits and even dried berries.

Once again, it is important that you try baking with pineapple or pineapple juice before you serve your cookies to your friends.
