The last few years have not been kind to Oscar winning actor Kevin Spacey. After being lauded for the better part of the 1990s and the first decade and a half of the 2000s by critics and audiences alike, the actor behind such memorable performances in classic films The Usual Suspects, Seven, Swimming with Sharks, American Beauty and L.A. Confidential fell hard on one scandal after another. Up front cautionary for all looky-loos: This is not an editorial and ye olde scribbler of words is not here to pass sentence and final judgment on Mr. Spacey. If that’s the sort of thing you’re pining for, then there are innumerable other articles and sites to ferret out for just such a thing (of course there is; it’s 2021). I cannot address Kevin Spacey the man; my bread and butter comes from looking at the work of the actor versus that of whatever did or did not happen off camera. Alright, with that misnomer out of the way, let’s take a gander at the news – as reported by The Hollywood Reporter – of the casting of Spacey in an upcoming film…
Director and actor Franco Nero (Forever Blues, Django Unchained) has cast Kevin Spacey in the Italian film L’uomo Che Disegno Dio (or, for the Italian challenged among us: The Man Who Drew God). The actor will be joining fellow thespian Vanessa Redgrave (who is also Nero’s wife) in the film which is set to shoot in Bel Paese, presumably sometime this year.
What’s L’uomo Che Disegno Dio about, you might ask? At press time, details are still rather sparse, but the official IMDB (don’t leave home without it, campers) page describes it as “the rise and fall of a blind artist.”
In a statement to ABC, Nero said that he was “very happy Kevin agreed to participate in my film. I consider him a great actor and I can’t wait to start the movie.”
This new film will mark Spacey’s first work since 2018’s Billionaire Boys Club.
