Hi LT, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
I have been wonderfully busy!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Hold Ya”?
I recorded Hold Ya in Brisbane, Australia with Konstantin Kersting who is the producer for the Tones and I hit, Dance Monkey. I have worked with Kon a number of times over the years and we had a lot of fun putting this one together.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Hold Ya was written at the beginning of the pandemic when everyone across the globe went into lockdown. As I watched footage from around the world of different people’s situations it became very apparent how much strain it placed on peoples relationships, whether they be romantic or otherwise. Hold Ya is about a romantic relationship suffering from the strain and pressures of life however it is filled with hope and the desire to remain connected.
How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
The video was a bunch of fun and filmed in an oldschool 80’s style roller-skating rink in Cairns, Australia. Chelsey Johnston was the brains behind the loose narrative which features various moments of connection. The vibe on the night was incredible and as I walked around all I could hear were different conversations between people reminiscing of their skating days. It was beautiful.
How was the recording and writing process?
This particular track was one of those songs that kind of wrote itself. It’s not often I can say that but when I started playing around on the guitar and singing melodies it just finished itself within one or two sittings. After I completed the song, the final piece of the puzzle arrived as I was listening to an Australian radio station, ‘Double J’ and they were spinning a track by Pusha T called ‘If you know, you know’. I started singing what I had written over the top of some of the beats and all of a sudden it was locked in. I knew what direction I wanted to take the song and the vibe of it. The two songs sound absolutely nothing alike, but it was just the inspiration I needed for that final piece.
What role does Queensland play in your music?
Queensland is a beautiful place to live. I reside in North Queensland which is filled with intense heat and humidity that sometimes sends everyone a bit crazy. I think the intensity of the place definitely inspires me to create.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Yes! I have another single ready to release later this year.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Hmmmmmm, I will give you the very first reveal and tell you that the new single is called, ‘How Would It Feel’. Seriously, you are the very first person I’ve told this to! It will be released in a few months.
What else is happening next in LT’s world?
More writing and shaping my stage show for when we are allowed to tour again.
