INTERVIEW: Storm The Empire

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
We’ve been great thank you!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Leap of Faith”?
“Leap of faith” is the perfect blend of Punk, Rock, and Metalcore. With a driving bassline that keeps the energy going like the good ol classic Punk songs, guitars that lead you off into a new dimension; Drums that pound in the back of your mind and Vocals that bring you back to the early 2000’s screamo scene.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Robb was going through some extremely hard times last year and this song was his way of expressing himself.

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

This video basically sums up who we are as a band. It shows you the behind the scenes of us recording “Within Chaos, There’s Beauty” our upcoming EP and us doing our photoshoot before Dale left Canada.

The single comes off your new EP Within Chaos, There’s Beauty – what’s the story behind the title?
Life. Over the past year of the world being stuck in lockdown, we’ve been given the break we needed as a society to look at the Chaos we live in.  The beauty that is coming out of this pandemic due to us having the ability to breathe in a clustered world, has given us a fresh view on life. A New Beginning.

How was the recording and writing process?

Amazing honestly, our drummer Andy is hands down of the best Producers we’ve ever met. What he can do in a studio is absolutely mind blowing. The amount of time and energy this guy puts into our music is inspiring. The writing is always a bit of a kerfuffle, it starts off with Dale and Robb usually and then the guys will come in and tell them what needs to change.

What role does Kelowna play in your music?

Honestly, other than us all meeting? We don’t see Kelowna being a big role for us musically. There are no venues that cater to metal any more (RIP Muninns). The local bands are amazing, but the scene needs a revamping. We love Kelowna, but we have our sights set on bigger things.

What aspect of beauty and chaos will you get to explore on this record?

Well, most of the lyrics on this EP are focused around Mental Illness and Revolution. The lyrics are presented in the way they are; Being fueled with rage and anger during the heaviest moments of tension, to the most subtle aspects of being alone in the Clean Vocals. It will take you on a journey through your own mind and leave you to self reflect.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

Robb is a very controversial writer. He likes to touch on points that most people are scared to, or wouldn’t think of. A lot of the lyrics are based around his personal battle with major depression.

What else is happening next in Storm The Empire’s world?

We recently signed with Artillery Music Group who will be releasing our EP, as well as the upcoming Full length we are starting to write now. We see tours, merchlines and many, many more albums in our future, so be sure to stay posted!
