The cool kids are back in town and New York-based psychedelic indie funk group (whoa, that was a lot to say in one breath) The Chris Ruben Band has just released a new full-length album called “Madness on Repeat”. Their core funk sound is able to elevate this album to another level; it adds liberal dashes of indie rock, alternative, blues, classic, and on, but it all is cohesive to bring their ultimate form.
The music may sound upbeat and have glorious melodies, the music goes much deeper than just that. It’s able to reflect on the all-too familiar experience we have all had where we felt we had no control. When our life seems to be spiraling out of control and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.
Please understand that there is and The Chris Ruben Band does a magnificent job in capturing that.
Here it is from the artist themselves: “Madness on Repeat” is a reflection of the unforgiving turbulence of life on life’s terms. Just when you think it’s going to let up, it doesn’t”.
Phew, this hits hard personally, and to many of our close followers who have shared some of their personal experiences with us. We just want to say that we are right there with you.
11-cuts deep, many of the tunes segue between calculated melodies that are eager in their staidness, and shouting accompanied by a frenzied din of instrumentation. That’s certainly the formula for “Won’t See You”, which alternates between a ballad and angst depending on what point in the tune one’s listening to it.
The Chris Ruben Band has it going on, pumping out viscous funk flavors melded with intoxicating alt-rock, and swashbuckling R&B.
Take a gander and listen to their new album, “Madness on Repeat” by The Christ Ruben Band.
