INTERVIEW: Country-Rock Songstress Bailey James

Hi Bailey, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’m good! Currently in Pennsylvania spending time with my family.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Over You”?

Over You was written with Nolan Neal, Smith Curry, and Jeremy Bussey. It was based on how some guys make these fantasies up in their head about what girls do after a breakup. They think we are going out every night getting with different guys, smoking, and drinking and that’s just not the truth for everybody. It’s me feeding off of that idea, and then telling him he will never have that kind of power over me.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

When I wrote this I was actually in a really happy place, but Nolan came in with the idea and it really resonated with me.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

Yes! I can’t wait for everyone to see the video.

How was the recording and writing process?

Really easy, and fun. The basis of the song was there before I ever came in the room, and then it just became mine from there.

What role does Nashville play in your music?

Honestly not much. I don’t play by the rules, and I never have.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes! It’s coming along nicely. I wrote so much in quarantine and just recorded some new songs in the studio.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I can give a hint. I’m Finally Free

What else is happening next in Bailey James’ world?

I had surgery to get my tonsils removed last week, and that has actually been great for me. I can finally sleep.
