Adult Swim have announced the next edition of their widely regarded Singles Program, an initiative that boasts exclusive new music from an eclectic cadre of artists for free listening on a weekly basis. Over the past decade Adult Swim has established itself as an unparalleled curator and important resource for music discovery, incorporating widely renowned acts while also providing a platform for rising independent artists. Unbound by genre affiliation and casting an ever-widening net, this year’s programming promises to be the most diverse yet, including forays into rap, experimental, indie, classical, punk, metal, electronic, jazz, and beyond. The initial lineup comprises a global scope, including new music from Dawn Richard, Chromeo, Pink Siifu, Flock of Dimes, Oranssi Pazuzu, Moor Mother + Lonnie Holley, Jlin, Armani Caesar, Duma, Cloud Rat, Billy Woods + The Koreatown Oddity, Backxwash + Dreamcrusher, Mourning [A] BLKstar, KeiyaA, and more still to be announced (see full list of announced acts below).
The series kicks off today with a new single by Danish punk quintet Iceage ahead of the release of their highly anticipated new album Seek Shelter (out on Mexican Summer this Friday). “High & Hurt” is a seething example of the album’s overall sound: that of a band whose emotional core has come unwound, while radiating warmth and a profound desire for salvation in a world that’s spinning further and further out of control. Now nine years into their tenure as one of most crucial bands on the bleeding edge of punk, Seek Shelter is an effusive demonstration of a band harnessing the propulsive momentum of their lives to push them in new, expansive, ecstatic directions. Listen here.
Throughout its tenure the Adult Swim Singles Program has released 271 songs by more than 230 artists, including Run The Jewels, Brian Eno, Sia, LCD Soundsystem, Slayer, James Blackshaw, serpentwithfeet, Skrillex, Freddie Gibbs + Madlib, Mastodon, Sad13, Future, Moor Mother, Flying Lotus, Giorgio Moroder, Vince Staples, Obituary, and many more. Several of the artists have forged long-standing relationships with the network, going on to become repeat contributors to the Singles Program, Adult Swim compilations, and other initiatives. In turn, Adult Swim has proven to be an ally and patron to the underground music scene, helping artists by producing music videos, animated shorts, and assisting to provide distribution, partnerships, spots on their annual festival, and more.
