INTERVIEW: Sarantos

How would you classify your music?

I’ve always been a rocker at heart.  I’m also an 80s child. So the best way I can describe my music is a fusion of 80s rock mixed with modern pop and rock elements.

Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?

I’m inspired by many many people but the top five are Survivor, Journey, Queen, Michael Jackson and Ed Sheeran.

What do you want fans to take from your music?

I want anyone listening to my music to feel the need to: 1.  Sing  2. Dance/move to the groove.  3.  Play the song over and over again.  That’s it.

How’s the music scene in your locale?

I was born and raised in Chicago and I always feel like we have an underdog mentality here. We’re definitely not New York or LA, but I think there’s a lot of creative music bursting in this area. Chicago is probably best known for Chance the Rapper but, I’m aiming to change all that.

What is the best concert you have been to? What do you like most about playing live?

I’ve been lucky enough to experience many concerts from Michael Jackson, Billy Joel, Def Leppard, Bruce Springsteen, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Rick Springfield, Imagine Dragons, Duran Duran, the list goes on and on.  If I had to pick one today, I will probably pick Billy Joel in Phoenix Arizona just because he was really vibing with the crowd and had such a great sense of humor. His age was not a detriment, it made me respect what he was accomplishing on stage even more actually.

Is there a song on your latest CD release here that stands out as your personal favorite, and why?

I Never Catch the Train. It’s just a cool folk country rock song that has such a universal theme that I think appeals to a lot of different people. I love the emotion of the vocals and the groovy guitar rhythm.

How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?

I finally figured out what vocal melody is as well as drum groove. This has helped immensely and of course I wish I had known this years ago. I’ve been studying with a professional and these songwriter lessons are on Year #5. I’m halfway there!

If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be?

There are so many people on this list. If I had to pick my top 3, I would be absolutely thrilled to do any of the above with The Beatles, Ed Sheeran or Justin Bieber.

What’s next for you?

I am currently working on my next music video launch.  I have so many things in the pipeline. It’s going to be an exciting year!!
