How have you been?
I’ve been alright thank you. I am very excited to finally be releasing some bangers again.
Did any event, in particular, inspire you to write this song?
I remember sitting on an almost empty plane ride from Manchester to Copenhagen, I was reminiscing on past experiences and the lyrics just came to me. As I looked down at the busy city lights of Copenhagen, the sentence “I wish myself away” and the word “Tears” came to my mind and that is when “Tears” was born.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Tears”?
“Tears” is a pop song with acoustic elements and a hint of folk. Lyrically, “Tears” is a mixture of the feeling I had looking down at the city lights, while being almost completely alone on the plane and the conversations I’ve had with my friends about past experience with love and relationships.
So if you like listening to a bearded Viking singing an emotional song about his broken heart then you’re gonna love “Tears.”
Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?
We made a beautiful music video for “Tears” and it’s out now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4LIKJ9ju64&t=112s
We had such an amazing time filming the music video. Eyk Studio came to the Faroe Islands to film and we had such a fun week filming around on the Faroe Islands.
How were the recording and writing process?
I wrote “Tears” when I lived in York, England. The writing process was very special to me because the song depicts a feeling that I concluded from a variety of stories from many different people and friends that I’ve met through life. Despite the complexity behind the song, the writing process happened so naturally and suddenly yet it remained personal and important to me.
It wasn’t until I moved back to the Faroe Islands that I started to record the song with some of my former bandmates Símun Dam and Rúni Hentze. We recorded the song on the Faroe Islands and in Reykjavík, Iceland with the producer Arnar Guðjónsson.
What role does Faroe Islands play in your music?
The Faroe Islands play a big role in my music. The music video for “Tears” was shot on the Faroe Islands we tried to capture the experience of being young on the Faroe Islands in the summertime. Personally, I think we managed to capture it well as the music video reflects back to my own feelings and experiences when I was younger and to what inspires me today.
The Faroe Islands will always be what inspires me the most. I grew up here and it is really a magical place.
Would you call this a departure from your previous work with your former band or rather a continuation?
It is definitely a mixture of both. Although I am releasing music as a solo artist now, I will always be inspired by my former band and band members.
The majority of the band members live in Denmark so when I have some festival gigs and live performances on the Faroe Islands they fly home and we perform together. Also when I fly to Denmark for performances and gigs, they perform with me. They are still a part of the recording and writing process and I’m very thankful for that.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
I’ve opened the floodgates with my single “Tears” so you’ll be hearing new music soon. I’ve been writing music for about two years now so I have some amazing material to release soon. I can’t wait to show the world my new music.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
The next single will possibly be a brand new song called “Nervous.” Can’t say much more about that 😉 you’ll have to wait and see.
But I can promise you it’s going to be a good one!
What else is happening next in Danny Baldursson’s world?
I’ll be releasing the new single within the next two months and start playing at some festivals again.
