Carlos Niño & Friends Share New Single/Film, “Salon Winds”

Carlos Niño & Friends share a new single, “Salon Winds” (with Jamire Williams, Nate Mercereau, Jamael Dean and Aaron Shaw), from their forthcoming album, More Energy Fields, Current  (out digitally next FridayMay 7th and in stores on LP/CD June 25th via International Anthem). Driven by drummer Williams’ sturdy swing and anchored by Mercereau’s synth guitar comp lines, the track heavily features lyrical flute soloing by Shaw.

“Carlos is undeniably a master curator of sound and expression,” says Williams. “His ability to bring together artists from various musical spectrums, allow them to create in a moment, and in that moment capture something honest and poignant is unmatched.”

“Salon Winds” was recorded during a private backyard concert at Mike D’s (of the Beastie Boys) Malibu home in the Fall of 2020. “One of the things I think I missed more than anything during quarantine was the enrichment of live music,” says Mike D. “If I could have picked just one activity it would have been going to see a concert that really matters to me.  So we felt blessed to host an intimate gathering of absolutely amazingly creative musicians. Improvisational musical dialogue. Transcending time and convention. We all drifted off to places unknown on that cool summer evening.”

In conjunction, its accompanying film directed by Cara Stricker (Alicia Keys, Blood Orange, A$AP Rocky, and more). The film, made of beautifully colored abstract visuals, reflects the track’s crescendo from a calm instrumental to a track brimming with improvisational energy.
