Shining on the red carpet and blazing in the kitchen: 10 celebrities who also own successful restaurants

There is a lot of inspiration here that you may just want to start your own catering business or just emulate the wonderful kitchen set-ups some of these restaurants have. If you have extra counter space, grab yourself a 24” Lenovo monitor for just $139.99 from the Best Buy deals. Use this to beam your recipes or to watch YouTube videos from celebrity chefs and make cooking time more pleasurable. For menu options, check out what these celebrity restaurants whip up.

1.    Ludacris

Previously owning a restaurant called Straits and then moving on to Chicken + Beer, named after his highly successful album, Chris Bridges aka Ludacris has been in the restaurant business for almost 15 years now. Chicken + Beer serves, yes you guessed it, everything chicken and is highly inspired by traditional Southern cuisine. You will find everything from collard greens, chicken and waffle to mac n cheese and grits.

2.    Kandi Burruss

In partnership with her husband, Kandi Burruss owns the Old Lady Gang (OLG) restaurant which is a Southern eatery located in Atlanta. If you are feeling inspired by Ludacris’ food option then Kandi’s similarly delicious Southern options will leave you salivating.

You can try to create your own Southern meal if you can’t help it. You will need some boneless chicken thighs and some cooked shrimp. Spice it up and mix it up to your taste. Enjoy comfort food from home until you get to try out the shrimp and grits martini and mama Sharon’s chicken and crème anglaise French toast served at the OLG.

3.    Idris Elba

A more recent member to the food and beverage industry business, Idris Elba, is new, but not inexperienced, as the menu offering and aesthetic of his lounge and bar ‘The Parrot’ indicate. The Parrot is a more sophisticated restaurant in comparison to some of the others on this list. At Elba’s place you can order a variety of cocktails and delicious canapes influenced by seasonal produce.

4.    Justin Timberlake

We know him for his smooth music and great dance moves but Timberlake also knows all things bbq. His restaurant, Southern Hospitality, offers the infamous Tennessee slow cooked brisket and baby back ribs. These are amazing delicacies from the south but Justin was kind enough to extend the yumminess to New York City and Colorado. His restaurant chain is growing and is sure to be in your part of the country soon.

5.    Ryan Gosling

Inspired by Moroccan cuisine, Ryan Gosling opened up Tagine, an incredible restaurant with a romantic setting. You will experience a candle-lit banquette, and of course, African dishes will be on the menu. You should try the North African stew and have some chocolate soup for dessert, or as a starter – we are yet to figure that one out. All we know is that the food is finger-licking good.

6.    Jay Z

Like his mother, Jay Z owns a hybrid lounge, restaurant and sports bar called 40/40 located in New York. His mother on the other hand, owns a comfort food restaurant in New Jersey called Diamondz N Da Ruff Cafe. Between the two Carters, you can find meals such as the king crab slider, chicken empanadas, crab cakes and fish sandwiches. Collectively, they have more than 15 years of experience running their respective restaurant ventures in two of America’s most popular cities.

7.    Michael Jordan

His legacy precedes him and so do his multiple successful restaurant branches scattered all over the States. The greatest former N** player of all time, Michael Jordan is worth over $30 billion dollars and owns steakhouses in Chicago, New York City and more. Steak frites, Japanese Wagyu ribeye steak, filet mignon and even lobster dishes are some of the offerings you can find at any of his restaurant locations.

8.    Gloria Estefan

True to her Latino roots, Gloria opened up Bongo’s Cuban cafe. With a Cuban menu and live music in the background, we wouldn’t have expected anything less from the queen of Latino music. Try this cafe out when you next visit Disney Springs in Walt Disney World. It’s a refreshing experience.

9.    Jessica Biel

She may have been inspired by hubby Justin Timberlake, but we suspect it was the birth of her son that prompted her to open Au Fudge. If you’ve been to a restaurant with children you know that it’s no walk in the park. From allergy considerations, to sitting them down properly and getting them to choose a healthy meal, it’s a challenge we know too well. Jessica really thought this one through and put out a menu with all-natural, organic and dye-free options. She even furnished the place so creatively that it includes a play area with au-pairs employed by the restaurant.

10.  LeBron James

LeBron’s Blaze Pizza is hugely successful and has been reported to have made him an estimated $35 million dollars from a $1 million dollar investment he made many years ago. Top quality, delicious pizzas offering over 16 toppings are available. This restaurant has over 91 million followers on Instagram and over 200 locations. However, the option to build your own pizza has been the recipe for success for LeBron’s pizza franchise.

It would be amiss to close off this list without honourably mentioning Kelis Rogers, a Cordon Bleu-trained chef and one the most talented celebrities with a successful history in the food and beverage industry. Although she does not own a restaurant, Kelis has staged a number of pop-up restaurants creating fine dining meals like sea bass ceviche and other Latin-American as well as Caribbean inspired cuisines.

The 10 celebrities with successful food and restaurant businesses know that multiple business ventures and solid investments further help cement their statuses as millionaires.
