The Best in Horror Films Recognized at Last Night’s 2021 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards

Horror films, though long a staple in the mainstream moviegoer’s diet, has rarely achieved the same sort of love from the various and sundry annual film awards that each year tout to high-heaven movies that, as a general rule, steer clear of things that go bump in the night. Oh sure, there are always exceptions to the rule: The Sixth Sense, The Silence of the Lambs, Get Out, The Exorcist and Rosemary’s Baby are a few notables that have scored major nominations from the likes of the Oscars and the Golden Globes. But for every The Shape of Water there are dozens of English Patient’s and Moonlight’s that have long dominated the proceedings. What then of genre favorites A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th or Halloween? The respective fan-base’s for these movies are vast; is there no recognition to be had for the likes of Craven, Carpenter, Mancusso, Myrick, Sanchez and Mitchell? I’m glad I posed that question, Constant Readers, for there is indeed an annual place of worship where the perennial red-headed stepchild of cinema can, for one hallowed evening, bask in the recognition of their fellow-fear fans, peers and contemporaries. Ladies and Gents, I present to you…the 2021 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards!

Presented yesterday evening, the 2021 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards – put on by two titans of the horror industry, Fangoria Magazine and Shudder – was a crackerjack of a success. Didn’t see a Best Kill category at this year’s Oscar nominations? Fear not, shunned one: Thanks to our groovy buddies over at Bloody Disgusting News, we’re bringing you not only the victorious winner of that category, but all of the winners from the awards show that dares to ask such timeless questions as  “Just who was the better Frankenstein Monster: Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney, Jr., Bela Lugosi or Glenn Strange?”

The Winners of the 2021 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards:

Congrats to all of last night’s nominees and winners. Oh, and best Frankenstein Monster? That would be Glenn Strange, kiddies!
