How to Fill the Game of Thrones Void

It’s been a really long time since that last episode of Game of Thrones aired and there are plenty of fans who are struggling to fill the Game of Thrones-shaped hole in their lives. Whenever you finish a great television series or finish a brilliant book, living a life without the characters from that story can feel disappointing. We looked forward to our weekly dose of Jon Snow and without him, the world feels difficult to navigate. Whether your feelings are as melodramatic as this, or you just quite fancy some GoT inspired fun, then we’ve got a few suggestions to help you through.

Get Stuck Into a Book, or Five

Caption: Whilst fans of the books will contest the authenticity of the television series, there is a different joy to be found in both versions of the tale.

Although there’s absolutely no doubt that the television series is brilliant, the Game of Thrones story actually started out as a series of books. George R R Martin is the author behind the series, which he called A Song of Ice and Fire. The show is not totally faithful to the books, as many aren’t, but you’ll still be able to recognize all of your favorite characters. The best part is that whilst the ending of the television series is already decided, the ending of the books is not. George R R Martin has not yet specified how many books there will be in the eventual chronicles, but it’s more than the current total, which means there’s plenty more GoT action to keep you busy.

Get Gaming

For fans of passive entertainment books are brilliant, but if you like being actively involved in your pastimes then sometimes a game can be more appropriate. The Game of Thrones board game is great for fans of really immersive gaming. It is quite involved, so you’ll need to familiarise yourself with the instructions before diving right in. However, a little while spent learning the ropes will reward you handsomely with hours of gameplay. You’ll need between three and six people to have a right royal battle, so prepare some friends in advance.

If you can’t bear to wait for the Game of Thrones board game to be delivered then there is an online alternative that you can be playing in minutes. Along with a selection of other games based on film and television, wildz.com has a Game of Thrones slot game which is sure to keep fans happy. With a dramatic theme tune and decidedly ‘Dark Ages’ reels, this game has atmosphere in spades. If you’re familiar with online slot games then it should be super simple for you to jump straight in as the mechanics are easy to pick up.

Prepare For the Spin-Offs

We’ve saved the best for last with this tip, but in case you’ve missed it, HBO has just released a remake of the trailer for season 8! If you’ve not had a chance to watch this series yet then be warned, they are far from keeping all of the best bits to themselves. This trailer is absolutely loaded with spoilers, so be prepared for some drama. For those who’ve already watched season 8 you can enjoy this trailer as a trip down memory lane. Once you’ve finished reminiscing, you can also read up about some of the spin-offs that are being prepared. House of the Dragon is a series that has been in the making for a while already, and will focus on the ancestors of Daenerys Targaryen, but on top of this George R R Martin has agreed to pen some new series for HBO that are based in the same world but with a whole different set of characters. The ideas for the spin-offs have been met with mixed emotions, but the fact that there are going to be at least three of them means that surely one will be great, right?
