A “Bridesmaid’s” Reunion as Co-Stars Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo Team-Up to Script Upcoming Disney Movie

If you’re still waiting for news on that mucho talked about (but probably never gonna happen, alas) sequel to the hit-comedy Bridesmaids then you’ll have to keep cooling your heels. However, if you’re a big enough fan of that 2011 smash that the prospect of at least two of the outstanding actors (not to mention the co-writers!) from the talented Paul Feig directed ensemble reuniting for a project excites you, then brothers and sisters you’ve come to the right place!

Announced this very day from our pals over at The Hollywood Reporter is the news that Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo of Bridesmaid fame are uniting to create magic anew for the Magic Kingdom (A.K.A. Disney). The two are teaming to pen what is being described as an “evil stepsisters” flick for the House That Uncle Walt Built.

The untitled project is intended to be a live-action musical comedy that will focus on Anastasia and Drizella, those evil and vile stepsisters from Disney’s own gem of a movie Cinderella. The duo of Mumolo and Wiig will have their work cut out for them too, as they’re being charged with telling the classic fairytale through the eyes of these two reprobates.

Looking to add a touch of Old Home Week to the proceedings is producer Gloria Sanchez who previously worked with Wiig and Mumolo on Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar. Working alongside Sanchez are none other than Jessica Elbaum and Will Ferrell who are joining the project as producers.

This newly announced projects are yet one more addition to Disney’s efforts to produce live-action one-on/one-off films that focus on renowned animated villains from the company. In the not-so-distant past- and not-too-distant future – the home of Mickey Mouse have released feature films that star Sleeping Beauty’s evil Maleficent character and Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmations in the soon to be released film Cruella.

As with many other projects that are newly announced, no details are known yet on stars, production dates or release dates. You can bet your Mickey Mouse Club membership card though that as soon as any new information is dropped we here at Vents will report it faster than Pluto chasing after a milk bone!
