Kwasi Aggor Describes the Future of Education Technology

For over five centuries humanity has not seen a technological upheaval in the education sector as major as the Gutenberg press in 1440, until the last decade.

Just as the arrival of the printing press revolutionized learning by making it accessible and efficient, its successor portends an even brighter future.

According to Kwasi Aggor, who works in the EdTech industry, educational technology or EdTech, equipped with cloud computing, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, machine learning and big data has immense potential to transform the education sector.

EdTech brings a paradigm shift in learning – from lifeless textbooks to engaging experiences of virtual reality and simulation programmes. It also marks a shift from instruction-based learning to the gamification of study modules to increase engagement among students.

“These tools encourage the development of real-life skills such as problem solving and decision-making abilities as students learn how to analyze different options through digital simulations without running real life risks,” says Aggor.

While traditional teaching models rely on test scores and attendance percentage as a marker of student success; EdTech can provide instructors and parents with crucial data about each student’s ability to conceptualize course material, reading efficiency and track their progress over time.

In Aggor’s opinion, “Students need more insights than simple grades to understand and improve their performance and EdTech is equipping them with that information.”

According to him, artificial intelligence used in EdTech can play a crucial role in adaptive learning. By creating recommendations based on individual learning history, it can help students make future career choices based on data regarding their learning abilities and interests.

Aggor says the availability of such data also aids teachers in setting the curriculum to match each student’s capability, making personalized learning possible.

Another feature of EdTech is the accessibility it provides to students through on-demand instructional videos and online classes. The ability to repeat any lesson at their own time and pace makes learning more accessible to students who are unable to attend physical classes due to sickness or for personal reasons.

“I believe that EdTech makes it possible to give everybody access to a great education”, says Aggor.

With EdTech, any student in any part of the world can have access to world class learning facilities and guidance from experienced teachers through online classes and digital study materials.

“Education Technology is truly enabling learning for all,” says Aggor.

While in conventional classroom environments, success depended upon memorization, it is not the case anymore. Aggor thinks that access to limitless information is transforming students from passive learners into individuals with lifelong learning and growth mindsets.

He says, “EdTech has a bright future and is estimated to grow by leaps and bounds in the coming years, “I am certain that it will play a uniquely important role in the future of education.”
