5 Best Exercise Equipment for Truck Drivers

Healthy living for an over-the-road truck driver, is that even possible? Let us explain.

Dealing with shoppers and customers and over-hours of service would make truck drivers almost impossible to live in good shape. You might be looking at pictures of yourself from the past and now in the present; you will notice that you gained a lot of weight. It’s the work ethics or something; you slowly give up exercising working hours dealing with things. Usually, one sitting hours in the same place, driving makes truck drivers out of breath, and the performance level slowly degrades. In fact, driving fatigue is the number one cause of truck accidents in America.

If that’s so, your present shape should motivate you to actually make a difference and start making something different in your life. The following includes the list of the five best exercise equipment truck drivers can use to regain their shape.

  1. Stretch Resistance Bands

If you are trying to fix your rounded shoulder or just have stiff shoulders and tight pecs, making it hard to drive a truck for hours, the stretch resistance bands release the chest muscles. The resistance band helps in increasing the mobility of your thoracic spine and shoulders. You can do this simple exercise daily as much you want, no matter where you are.

Many people demonstrate the stretch resistance technique using a wooden stick or broomstick; however, we recommend using the rubber band. The stretch band gives a little bit of leeway, and it can be placed anywhere that has little space inside the truck.

To perform the exercise, grab a band with two hands at each tip and pull it all the way back and forward. What this does is, gives mobility to your shoulder and release the muscle tension. It’s convenient to perform even when you are watching Television, just knock forty or fifty of the rounds backward and forwards whenever you get time.

  • Dumbbells

Dumbbells are great workout equipment indoor or outdoor. We could not be much happier than including dumbbells in our list to help you folks maintain your body out on the restless road. Dumbbells are excellent as you can work every part of your body with two of them.

Grab a dumbbell that has a similar weight at both hands, step forward and come down. While you go down, touch the knees and go backward. Practice a couple of times while you look for right angles between the hamstrings and calves. Make your instance perfect without leaning too much forward or backward.

You can even train your shoulder, arms, triceps, and chest with dumbbells. Don’t jerk the dumbbells too much; keep them steady and push them to the proper angle and position until you feel pressure on your muscles you are trying to train. Complete a couple of sets and do 15-12-10 reps every day twice.

Being a truck driver is hard; at the same time, you will be making lots of money. None managed to pass the driver’s test until they trained and practiced driving heavy vehicles in the first place. The fundamentals of all driving start with a basic driving test. The DKT test helps learners practice the actual demonstration test that gets you learner’s permit, and the rest is your career as a professional truck driver.

  • Yoga Mat

Cardio is great when you want to train every part of your body. They work as the warm-up exercise to strengthen muscles before you start hitting machines and dumbbells at the gym. You would not need a fancy yoga mat for this particular exercise; a carpet or a microfiber towel you carry while you drive should do fine.

The first exercise you can practice is the bird dog. You get into a quadruple position which means all of your four hands and feet are touching the ground. Bring your leg back at the level of your hips and reverse it back to the ground. Do a couple of these alternately. During this, try to tighten your stomach and stabilize these areas so that the body experiences equal and proper pressure.  You can get more advanced as you throw one arm and one leg simultaneously.

Moreover, you can perform sit-ups, modified V-ups, hip raises, elbow plank, and many other exercises to retain your body in great shape. We advise you to do yoga in the morning as it seems more practical.

  • Kettlebell

Kettlebell focuses on building a great foundation of strength, endurance, and mastery of the simplest movements. A kettlebell is enough for you to get started; however, you need to consider the size of the ball you think you can lift.

The first exercise you need to consider mastering is the two-handed deadlifts. The exercise focuses on hinging your hips rather than squatting the bell. You can start this exercise anywhere you stop after a long drive or do it behind your cargo bed.

Similarly, Cobalt squat helps to build strength on your legs as you squat up and down a couple of times, holding the kettlebell. Ensure to keep your core tight and maintain a steady spine. After that, accelerate up and down the kettlebell and drive your hips along with it.

Suitcase deadlift is another basic exercise you can perform with the kettlebell. It works as you hinge your hips and disallow any lateral flexion of your spine.

  • Folding bike

Suppose you have limited space in your truck; the folding bike is what you can adjust nearly anywhere. It’s a compact portable tool, but still, you can get an excellent workout with a folding bike. The portable exercise tool is inexpensive and can do possibly anything treadmills would do, that is, losing your weight. Folding bikes are compact and well made, as well as they come with tools and fitting, which takes no more than 10 minutes.

The folding feature is what makes it impressive for truck drivers. It should occur in a small area once it’s folded, with a bike’s weight coming in around 40 pounds.

Since truck drivers have a great responsibility to ship things from one place to another, we thought it would be a great helping folk like you get into shape. With the portable and lightweight exercise equipment we have mentioned above, you can work out anywhere anytime, making your body fit and fine. Eat healthy, workout daily, and stay fit.
