What are the Dangers of Twitch?

Be it young or adult gamers, they see twitch as a great opportunity for them to expand their audience. Twitch is a live streaming website that allows different content to broadcast live such as creative content, gaming, music, real-life streams, etc. It has been around 2011 but in recent years it has gained more popularity. In order to promote their live streamers, twitch has introduced a feature called twitch bits, which allows the users to tip their most favorite streamers. In case you are also on the hunt to grow your audience, Streamupgrade twitch growth will help you gain more followers monthly and organically.

Irrespective of it being marketing-friendly, engaging, and trendy, it still comes with its cons especially for its younger streamers and audience:

Live Streaming

Live streaming is raw, unedited and literally, anything could happen the next minute. Whether the streamers use foul language, inappropriate imagery, belittling comments, and more, they all come to the viewers as it is. And if your child is exposed to all of this while they are engaged watching live streamers, it may affect their mental health. Although scams, violence, spams, obscene and sexual content are not allowed according to Twitch’s community guidelines, still it doesn’t prevent some streamers to do so.

And if your child decides to live stream, Twitch’s terms of service states that the user must be at least 13 years old to use or stream on Twitch. But still, this doesn’t prevent the younger audience from engaging in Twitch which may not be healthy for them in the long run.

Twitch Chat

Twitch features a chat box that allows the viewers to comment on their favorite live streamers. Although this feature allows them to interact with the streamers and chat with the other audience online, this can lead to harassment and the use of inappropriate language. It is easier for Twitch to monitor the chatbox for the ones whose audience is comparatively smaller as there are lesser comments but it becomes pretty hard for the ones who have a large fan following and users take advantage of this and feel free to comment whatever they feel like. It becomes a yelling contest for hate speech and cyberbullying etc.

This can lead to the users feeling bad about themselves one way or another. And especially if there’s a younger audience, anything bad can leave a footprint in their minds which can haunt them for the rest of their life as insecurities.

What Can Parents Do?

As a parent, you need to ensure your child is age-appropriate to join the platform. You can also do an extra bit of research on the kind of streamers your child watches and even if their content is satisfactory-to-watch. Even then, it becomes impossible to keep an eagle eye on your child round the clock. You can search for parental control software online and use these tools in order to track your child’s screen time and limit the amount of time that they spend on Twitch.

While Twitch can be slightly risky especially for a younger audience but a proper understanding of the platform and proper guidelines can help your child enjoy the platform in a safe way.
