INTERVIEW: Gabriella Stella

Hi Gabriella, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi Vents! I’ve been really good, I have been focused on new music and my mental health. I have been working a ton on myself spiritually and physically.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Dirty Laundry”?

Of course, I just recently released my new single “Dirty Laundry” and it’s been such an exciting process. I have been holding onto this song for about 2 years now. I think timing is everything and I wanted to work a tad more on my branding/presence online.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

We have all had a relationship in our lives that feels draining or just loses that new clothing feel. The relationship I wrote this song about has currently ended, but I wish that person nothing but the best. If love is meant to be it will come back to me and I just need to do me for now.

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

I had such a great time filming the music video for “Dirty Laundry” and doing more of a storyline type video. We filmed in-front of a laundromat which caused head turns and car honks but I am a performer and love the attention. Funny story; we had a lady at the laundromat come up to us while we were filming and wouldn’t leave us alone. She just kept questioning us by asking what we were doing and if I was famous. After that, we did some press photos at another laundromat and he took photos of me and said he loved my music. It was a really cool experience and is fun to remember those off camera moments.

How was the recording and writing process?

I worked with a local DFW artist named AXYL. She worked on “Babygirl” and “Bad Love” with me so it was nice working on “Dirty Laundry” with her. She mainly does EDM music but I wanted “Dirty Laundry” to have a lighter feel to it. We ended up going back in and adding a guitar element to the track, and it completely changed the feel of the track. I wrote the song in about 2 sessions but every songwriting experience is different for me. Sometimes I am able to write a song in an hour and other days it can take me a couple days/weeks. It just depends on my mood/ what’s going on in my life, what’s in my phone notes, etc.

What role does Dallas play in your music?

I grew up in Dallas so I grew up around different music styles and types. If you take a walk downtown in Deep Ellum, you will hear different music sounds coming from every side street and street corner. I definitely have been influenced by a little bit of everything I heard growing up.

How has Demi Lovato and Adele influenced your writing?

Demi Lovato is such an authentic person which makes her an honest writer. I have always admired her bluntness about her mental health. She has influenced my writing by taking those emotions that are hard to express and adding music to them. Adele has just been so groundbreaking in vocal technique and writing expression. She just has a way with words and the way she sings them.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Of course, the only thing I can give away right now is the fact I am working on new music and it will be coming later this year. I am beyond excited for this next chapter in my music and can’t wait for it to be released.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I can give you this- later this year. Haha I know that’s ominous and doesn’t give many details but I want to keep it as a secret right now.

What else is happening next in Gabriella Stella’s world?

I am working on doing a 5 week program with Berklee College of Music in Boston. I am working on a piano program with Treasured Vessels that I will be starting soon. Other than that I am working on new music and can’t wait for it to be released.
