Navigating the world of music production has never been an easy game. Now, with all the possibilities offered by the digital world, artists are having more difficulty than ever, because with more opportunity comes more competition. We are practically surrounded every day by new information, new music, and things to discover and fall in love with. While this might sound ideal from the consumer’s perspective, imagine how difficult that makes the artist’s job. Not only do you have to be a skilled musician, but you also need the marketing skill necessary to get your music heard.
Not a lot of artists know how to do that successfully, which is why it is all the more exciting for us to interview those that do. One such artist is young Dyna Edyne. A tremendously skilled artist of Haitian American origin, Dyna Edyne is creating some of the most soulful, evocative pieces on the market today. Her music is infused with feeling and knows just how to stir up your emotions, making them fast favorites, not only for fans of soul music, but for a broad, varied audience.
Yet, as we were just saying, it is not enough to be a skilled and accomplished artist. You also need to have a good channel to bring your music to the masses, and luckily for her, Dyna Edyne seems to have mastered this as well.
Discussing the importance of marketing to her brand, Dyna says: “Marketing is extremely important to me and my brand. I’ve already put years into it, so trial and error has definitely taught me a lot. And I know now more than ever before how I want to present my art as well as how quick the consumers mind is, so I try to catch and hold their attention with different strategies that social media helps with. I recently got into the stock market and trading and I think this literacy was lacked especially in our community and it shouldn’t be that way. We should all be abundant and go after what we really want to do.”
Edyne, who quotes Janelle Monae and Beyonce as her main influences, talks about how important social media is to her, as an artist. Because in this day and age, social media is more than just a means to an end – it is your main promotion platform. It is how you, as an artist, can connect with your audience on a more personal level. And this is perhaps where Edyne’s success stems from. As an artist, she is dedicated to reaching and understanding her audience. This helps her create music that speaks to them, but also helps her grow her brand and fanbase.
“Social media is very important because I’ve been able to build on it and showcase my art the way I want. Most of my business inquiries come from my Instagram page so it is a blessing to have the quick access of networking with people across the board because of it. It’s like a virtual business card.”
