In the past year, face-to-face interactions, events, and public venues were banned due to the threat of the pandemic. As a result, people flocked turned to the internet where they can continue to work, study, and connect with others to cope with being confined indoors.
Among the many establishments that were temporarily closed down were art galleries. To provide themselves with space where they can continue to feature and sell their artworks, artists have taken to the internet to fulfill this purpose.
One such artist is Bolli Blas who is known for her artworks that feature bright-eyed characters called Bollis in vibrant settings.
Bolli is taking her artworks to a new online art gallery called ArtsyNFT which she also co-founded. It is through this platform that Bolli can get to showcase her notable piece and put them up for sale.
A Gallery of Cryptoart
The online gallery where Bolli has set up shop is not your usual gallery as it leverages the power and technology of the internet by using non-fungible tokens (NFTs) which are commonly used in the rising trend of cryptoart.
Put simply, NFTs are tradeable, digital ownership certificates that represent the ownership of a unique asset. Interested buyers would then have to pay for the piece of digital art so they could acquire the ownership rights to it. An online ledger also keeps track of who owns what to keep everyone involved safe.
However, there’s a catch to it. Other people can also download the artwork and make copies but the owner of the NFT alone will have the bragging rights to having the original piece in their possession. This combination of art and technology has since been used by artists all around the world to put their artwork, songs, videos, and other media up for sale.
At present, Bolli’s recent original artwork titled (Dis) Miss Liberty is up for bids at $12,882.78. This is only the beginning for Bolli as she creates a new space for her art online.
An Artist with a Vision
With her paintings, Bolli shares her version of a utopia where there is no prejudice, hate, or war—just people from different ethnicities living together in peace. The inspiration behind these characters came from when she was backpacking through some of the poorest countries of Central America, Asia, and Africa.
The bright-eyed characters in her paintings also look back at the viewers, serving as a mirror to modern society. Through them, Bolli hopes to encourage the world to become in touch with their youth and innocence and free themselves from discrimination and hate.
