Singer-Songwriter Meghan Trainor Sets Her Sights on Acting with Upcoming NBC Comedy Series

It’s a time-honored tradition in Hollywood for musicians to try their hand at acting. Some take to it quite well: Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Meatloaf, Barbra Streisand, Judy Garland, Diana Ross, Harry Connick Jr., Eddie Vedder and Flea are but a few of the talented and musically inclined that have graced the silver screen over the years. We can now add the name of Lips Are Movin’ sensation Meghan Trainor to the above list according to our flies on the wall over at Variety.

Variety reports that Trainor has been picked to lead and develop an upcoming comedy series from the folks at NBC after inking an exclusive deal with NBCUniversal Television and Streaming Entertainment. Want to know what it’s about, who co-stars with Trainor, a release date and a title? Yeah, I’d like that, too. Alas, the ink on said deal is still wet and all of those sundry little details have yet to be ironed out. What we do know however is that the deal the musician signed off on will potentially allow her to develop other projects ranging from non-scripted to scripted programing.

Susan Rovner, Big Wheel at NBCU Television and Streaming Entertainment said in a press release on Friday that “In addition to being a phenomenally talented performer, Meghan is a vibrant and hilarious ray of light who is the perfect fit for NBC’s brand. We love the idea of introducing Meghan into the world of scripted comedy as well as working with her to find all the creative and crazy ways she can engage with fans across our brands. With eight distinct platforms, we’re able to provide the ultimate playground for multi-hyphenate artists, and this is just one of the ways we’re leveraging our new structure to benefit both talent and audiences.”

For her part, the Grammy Award-winning musician issued a statement about the deal, calling it “so beyond a dream come true.” She also sang the praises of Rovner before indicating that she’s also excited about getting to work in bringing her various ideas to life.

A hale and hearty “kudos” to Ms. Trainor on her new deal and we’re looking forward to whatever comes next for her!
