INTERVIEW: Coda Meraki

Hi Coda, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey, Thank you for having me. I’m doing well. Thank you for asking. I hope you are also well!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Spotless Mind”?

Absolutely, Spotless mind is now out on all streaming platforms. This release was written in the perspective of one of my favorite films “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, and dropped on the 17th anniversary of the film. I love the cold, cut and dry way the film conveys the feeling of wanting to start over. To be rid of emotionally draining memories, moments, and mistakes that make us all who we are. The idea of a clean slate.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

No particular event inspired the writing of the track. However as many have experienced, the painful and sometimes altering feelings and emotions involved with breaking a way from a relationship were the backbone to this song. The representation of this in “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” is beautifully tragic and provides an incredible visual. To my thought process in writing this track.

The song is inspired by the movie “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.” What about this film inspired you to write the song?

Inspiration comes in many forms. I am currently in a season of reflection and finding the strength to unload heavy weighted burdens from my chest. I tend to gravitate towards writing about my fears and uncomfortable moments in my past or present. The film is this concept in a nutshell. Flashing through moments of emotion, trapped in the mental state. Because of this “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” is at the top of my favorite films.

Any plans to release a video for the track?

Released with the single was the Official Lyric Video. The lyric video follows a text message conversation between two individuals as they spiral downward. Check it our on my Youtube Channel (

How was the recording and writing process?

I love the challenge that writing and recording presents. Writing music for me is cathartic, and provides a healthy outlet of emotional trauma and heavy thoughts like writing in a journal. I am also lucky to be able to write with one of my best friends and producer TYZN. The dynamic between the two of us is great, bouncing ideas back and fourth while challenging each other to be better with each next step we take in our own music careers, and when writing together. I cannot put into words how much I appreciate TYZN.

How have the pandemic and the events of the last year influenced your music?

Music and rather the world as a whole has changed. Witnessing the destruction of individuals, businesses, livelihoods, and the immense loss of life all wrapped into being confined at home while being afraid to step outside has been incredibly taxing. I was able to finally put together and release my record “When the World Is Upside Down”. This follows my headspace while walking through a rollercoaster of emotions tied to battling through the ups and downs of my own mental health.

What is the music scene like in Denver? What role does your hometown play in your music?

Denver is a cool city! Downtown is always evolving and the venues (hopefully they can open again soon) are solid! The music community here is diverse. The impact of having your city on your side is always a large barrier to overcome, but is also so impactful to your music. I cannot wait until I am able to play shows and reconnect with fans in person.

Does the new single mean we can expect new material? How’s that coming along?

You got it! This new single is the first in a line of new music to be released this year! I am currently working on my next album. It has been great getting to go back into the studio and lay out a fresh set of ideas and thoughts. I am so excited about what is coming next!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

While I can’t put a definite date or title on the next release, I can say it is coming soon. I cannot wait for you to hear it!

What else is happening next in Coda Meraki’s world?

I am continuing to grow myself as a creator. I am itching to get out and play shows/ tour. I have been developing my live show, and the elements involved in performances coming soon. You can see a sneak peak of this on my instagram from time to time as I post updates, and performance footage ( Be sure to follow and subscribe on you favorite music and social media platforms to stay up to date with me, and everything I am workin on for 2021 (@CodaMeraki).
