PREMIERE: Oblivion Orchestra Releases New Single “Oh Oblivion”

Today we are pleased to join forcs with Oblivion Orchestra for the premiere of their new music video for “Oh Oblivion,” a moody piece comprised of great visuals that are both beautiful to look at, while at the same time very nightmare inducing, which fits the song’s vibe.

About the song, Allen comments ‘Oh Oblivion’ was the song that showed me what this whole record would eventually sound like.  The recording actually came together very quickly.   I sang the song and started layering tracks and tracks of cello without any real plan, and once I heard it all back together with my voice, I knew immediately that I was gonna make an entire album that way.  The video happened pretty quickly as well, with a little bit of luck, a train window, and an old style pocket camera.  It wasn’t what anyone would call a ‘good’ camera, but it was fun to use because it could be tricked into doing strange things with the light and with the focus.

Scene to Scene, the new LP from New York, NY songwriter Josh Allen can be a bit disorienting on first blush. Sheets of buzzing texture shift in and out of focus, while plaintive vocals pierce the veil and plunge straight to the heart of vulnerable humanity.

You could call it a concept album, but Oblivion Orchestra’s writer, singer, arranger and only member Allen might bristle at the term. Less a concept and more an act of creative necessity, it is still the case that the only instrument played on the record beyond one guitar and voice is cello. Yet, that one instrument is broken fully out of preconceived notions of its sound.  Each track on Scene to Scene features layers upon layers of the cello, sometimes up to twenty or more; strummed, screeched, run through reverbs, knocked on, bowed and manipulated, weaving their way around the stark core of each song.
