Fans of “Outlander” Rejoice: Starz Has Renewed the Show for a Seventh Season

Fans of the time-bending, reality-altering show Outlander have special reason to celebrate this week: The show, which is based off of the popular series of novels by author Diana Gabaldon, has received an early pickup for a seventh season by its home network of Starz.

Outlander is about a woman named Claire Randall, a married woman from 1945 who used to be a nurse during World War II. Claire suddenly finds herself transported through time from ’45 to the Scotland of 1743. The time-tossed young lady quickly finds herself enmeshed in the Jacobite risings and simultaneously hanging out with a Highland warrior. And you thought you were having a trying week…

The Hollywood Reporter announced the early season seven pickup on Sunday, even as the sixth season of Outlander is currently in the midst of production in Scotland. The seventh season it was revealed will be comprised of twelve episodes and will be adapted from Gabaldon’s seventh entry in her Outlander saga of books, An Echo in the Bone. In total, there are eight books in the series.

In a press release, Starz Big Wheel Christina Davis said that “Starz is committed to investing in unapologetic, bold premium storytelling that amplifies diverse voices and shines a spotlight on women in front of and behind the camera through our #TakeTheLead initiative. The hit series Outlander embodies everything about our initiative including a powerful female lead character and an amazing team of storytellers. We look forward to following the adventures of Claire and Jamie in America during the Revolution as well as more time travel during this next season.”

Wanna know who isn’t surprised that Outlander got the early greenlight for a seventh season? Look no further then Constant Reader than one of the gents who had the initial wherewithal to take a leap of faith and adapt the series of books to the small screen, Ron Moore. In an interview with our Distinguished Competition The Hollywood Reporter just last month, Moore revealed to the trade paper that conversations were already well under way for more Outlander goodness. “Conversations are underway on both season seven and on a spinoff and I think we’re going to have good news on both those fronts before too long so I feel very optimistic about it.” Say Ron, your prognostication powers are impressive enough for this hack to ask you about what particular stock I should invest in…

All quips and tongue-in-cheek asides out of the way, Vents would like to congratulate the blokes over at Outlander production for the early renewal.
