zleephouse’s new single “No Performance” is a romantic breakup song about apologetically closing the curtains on a relationship he could no longer maintain

Singer-songwriter zleephouse released his first single in the new year, “No Performance”, an alternative pop soliloquy lamenting on the end of a relationship. He brings us more of a euphoric and dreamlike sound compared to the  throwback G-Funk energy of his previous single, “thru the night”.

During the beginning of the global pandemic, zleephouse felt that he had a lot of voids in his life mentally and with his career that he needed to address. He had a realization that he was a kid yearning to be a man and was deflecting from his personal responsibilities, needing therapy, and had $15K in personal debt to pay off. To him, this was the time to prioritize what mattered most. Writing “No Performance” brought out all the emotions he felt having to leave a relationship to grow up on his own.

He first met his producer JConn in June last year. zleephouse was not planning to work on music that night, but the two had hit it off and JConn immediately invited him to his studio for a socially distanced session. He played zleephouse a simple loop, which led to a 5-minute melody freestyle which eventually became the skeleton of the track.. After producing the demo, they later held a writing session along with his now manager Sherif, to build the song into the masterpiece that was born: “No Performance”.

“‘No Performance’ signifies the end of a relationship, but not in a toxic way. I realized that I had to end a relationship with a girl I really loved because I knew I wasn’t in a place to be in one.”
