Top 5 Activity Guide For Vegas – Ignoring the Casinos

In this guide of top 5 things to do in Vegas, our colleagues gave us one simple challenge – Don’t include casinos.

Of course we jumped head first into this seemingly impossible task, racking our brains (and searching Google) for activities that don’t involve gambling. This is where we started:

  1. Travel to International Sights without leaving the city

In much the same way that Disney’s Epcot is home to the World Showcase which presents highlights, including landmarks from eleven different countries, Las Vegas does a similar thing on a huge scale. The Venetian is home to a seriously impressive version of Venice’s canals and is complete with Gondolas which are even better than the real deal! In fact, as someone who’s been to Venice, I can confirm that the real guys aren’t so happy to sing!

Other international landmarks include the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe.

2. Drive an expensive car on the strip

You don’t need to place any bets on the slot games to feel like a real high roller. Instead, go to one of the many garages that hire luxury sports cars. If you’re not confident about driving, you’ll even be able to hire a driver to take you out for a spin (of a different sort) on the strip.

3. Enjoy a drink with a Mermaid

OK, you got us, this attraction is actually inside of a casino (the Silverton Casino) but despite this we wanted to give it a mention. At the bar you’ll be able to sip your drinks whilst sat next to what is effectively a super sized fish tank which contains real life mermaids.

4. Helicopter Tour of Grand Canyon

Admittedly this experience may be prohibitively expensive for some, but for those who can afford it, it’s a must, especially if your trip to the US will not allow time to actually travel to the Grand Canyon. There’s no shortage of tour operators selling tickets for the Grand Canyon tours, most of which operate out of the same small airfield just outside the city.

5. The Neon Graveyard

Essentially this is just a huge collection of dumped neon signs, but what a collection it is. The graveyard is both as awesome as it is every and gives you a feel for the attractions that haven’t stood the test of time, or simply the brands that have updated their signs! It’s a great way to get away from the buzz of the city for a while.

So there you go, there’s five things to do that don’t involve casinos (except for 3, which involves going inside of one).

Once we started this task we realized it wasn’t actually such a tall order. As it happens, taking all the mega casinos with all their impressive looking slot games and putting them to one side actually leaves you with heaps of fun stuff to do in the principle city of Nevada.
