It’s a new month, so my recommendations for your weekend movie watching is going to be stuff that is new to a few of the top platforms out there. These films weren’t available in February, but they are there for you in March. Let’s see how you can spend your weekend all you cinephiles!
The new films on Netflix to start March aren’t great. I mean, I can’t recommend Lego Marvel Spider-Man: Vexed by Venom, as I haven’t seen it. If you are in the mood for a searing drama, the best choice of these films is probably Training Day. Hey, it won Denzel Washington an Oscar. At least there is a new season of Nailed It! coming late in the month.
A bunch of films are hitting HBO Max, including John Carpenter’s original Assault on Precinct 13. However, combining that with Training Day would make for quite a bleak combination. Hey, it would be thematic, though, since both movies involve the police. If you don’t want that, though, go with Adventureland, a fun coming-of-age comedy starring Jesse Eisenberg and featuring some great music.

If you want to keep the cop theme going, Amazon Prime added Tombstone in March. Hey, Wyatt Earp is a sheriff. That’s a kind of police officer. Otherwise, definitely go with Wet Hot American Summer if you haven’t seen it. That actually pairs well with Adventureland. I’m building multiple theme nights at once!
With Hulu, you could combine comedy and cops with Starsky and Hutch, which is actually a pretty good movie. It’s the only Todd Phillips movie I like, actually. If you want just a coming-of-age movie, though, there’s Wes Anderson’s Rushmore, which a lot of people love but actually there’s a few Anderson films I like better.
Enjoy your first weekend of March!
