INTERVIEW: Sia Shells

Hi Sia, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been doing good, the new release has been getting so much attention! Spring is also around the corner and I’m very excited for that.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Magic Girl”?

Magic girl is a self-love anthem, to spread love and positivity during these uncertain times to all the magic girls out there. We want people to walk away feeling inspired, empowered to achieve their best selves!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

The pandemic has been hard on all of us, some more than others. Sometimes it’s hard to think of he future with positivity when there is so much negativity surrounding us everyday, now. I wanted to put out a song that acts as a personal hype anthem, whenever you’re feeling down just put on magic girl for a sprinkle of happy!

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

We are working towards a very exciting music video for magic girl in early march! Stay tuned.

How was the recording and writing process?

It was honestly great! Despite the pandemic, we were able to do remote jam sessions, writing, brainstorms so that when we stepped inside the studio we knew exactly how we wanted to lay down the song.

What was it like to work with Ekelle and what did Ekelle bring to the table?

She’s amazing, we were definitely vibing off of each other’s energy during the writing process. I can’t imagine the song without her, because she really helped it come to life.

Do you tend to take a different approach when collaborating with someone else rather thanworking on your own?

I enjoy collaborations because there are 2 heads instead of 1! Double the power, double the talent haha. We get to feed off of each other’s inspiration and thinking process to create something truly magical. When working alone, I often take much longer working or finalizing songs because it’s more of a personal journey, but when you have someone else on your song they help bring their own ideas to table, sometimes things you didn’t even think of before!

What role does Toronto play in your music?

Toronto is my home town, so we definitely wanted to nod to it in the artwork for the cover art and the music video we’re creating for the song. It’s where Ekelle and I also met, so it’s pretty perfect for the song!

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

For sure! There will be another single released sometime in the spring and summer, and we’re working on an exciting cover as well that will follow the same theme of girl power, self empowerment and positivity.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?Keep your eyes peeled for late spring and summertime for our next song!

What else is happening next in Sia Shells’ world?

Soo much as always haha! I may have a guest appearance coming up on a big network but can’t spill more of the tea on that just yet 😉
