Hi Scott, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Thank you for featuring me! I’ve been quite well, staying productive, and safe during these times. It’s been a step away from the norm which has been a blessing in disguise, always look for those silver linings. It’s an exciting time right now as I’m just about to release my debut EP.
Can you talk to us more about your debut EP “Ocean Blue”?
This is my first project under my new alias ‘Scott the Pisces’, and so I wanted to get a few tracks out at once to launch myself right. The EP is a summer inspired 5 track project, filled with uplifting vibes and nostalgic triggers. I’ve blended my own mix of Electronic, Pop, and RnB into the 5 songs, which feature 5 incredible female artists.
Did any event in particular inspire you to create the EP?
The whole downward spiral that was 2020 is really what inspired me to start something. I wanted to do something that would be the opposite of that, something that would elevate your mood upon listening. It was mostly for my own benefit, being able to escape from reality within my music and in the creation process itself. I went on a long classic pop voyage, listening to all the pop music I loved growing up, breaking down the songs and elements to why they worked so well. Pop powerhouse producers such as Max Martin played a huge role in the inspiration for the production. When it came to writing the lyrics, I took inspiration from songs by Katy Perry, Carly Rae Jepsen, Gwen Stefani and a touch of RnB inspiration from Mariah Carey, Aaliyah & Brandy.
How was the writing and recording process?
It was quite pleasant actually, working completely remotely allowed for us to go back and forth with ideas, over a longer time frame, meaning we could sit with the music and hear different things each listen. I usually prefer to be in the room with the artist, as I have a good idea in the moment of what I want, and how to guide them if I begin to hear something I like brewing. The initial producing and writing on my side was pretty standard for me. Completely done in my bedroom, although this was the first time I began sending out vocal demos for my music. It was quite nerve racking at first, I knew my ideas were solid but I’m by no means a singer. Luckily the artists I worked with were all very understanding, and grasped the ideas perfectly.
What else is happening next in Scott the Pisces’ world?
I’m looking to work with more upcoming artists in multiple genres, spending some time as a ghost producer and writer while also focusing on building up my own release catalogue under Scott the Pisces. You can expect a few more singles from me this year, as I work to release more frequently. Aside from music; I’m also looking to write a small book in the future, filled with poetry, lessons and wisdom I’ve acquired on this journey we call life.
You can stay up to date with me on my socials, as well as my music on all streaming platforms.
