9 Alternative Energy Sources

There are different energy sources, and for years we have been dependent on fossil fuels as our primary source of energy. They have been the best so far and have led to adverse effects such as land degradation, global warming, health disorders, and more. We need to desist using these types of energy sources and focus on alternative sources of energy.

These alternative energy sources are safe and eco-friendly. The term alternative energy source refers to clean energy or renewable energy. So, today I am going to inform you more about these sources and their importance.

Solar Energy

This energy source captures sun rays and converts the rays to electricity that you can use to power your home. The solar panels have photovoltaic systems that are responsible for the conversion of solar energy to electricity.

Other than home installation. Countries like the United Arab Emirates are coming up with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park that is expected to produce 2836 Megawatts of electricity.

This will power over 50,000 residential homes. The best thing about solar energy is that it’s clean and eco-friendly.

When it comes to home installation, consider Sunelec Brisbane as they are the authentic solar energy partner. They don’t do solar for home but commercial too.

Wind Energy

Wind turbines and generators are essential for the production of wind energy. The wind turbines transform the kinetic energy wind produces into mechanical power then the generator converts the mechanical power to electricity.

The best thing about this source of energy is that it doesn’t produce any product such as carbon emission that will lead to global warming. It’s totally renewable and safe for use. Even though installation can be expensive but it is worth it.

Currently, the global wind energy capacity is over 600 Gigawatts. This is because many countries are embracing the use of wind in the production of electricity. The leading wind energy producer in the globe is China with 221 Gigawatts.

Biomass Energy

Also known as bio-energy this is the source of energy is produced from organic matter. Over a thousand years ago firewood has been the primary biomass energy source. It has been used in cooking meals ever since till today.

But is it the only biomass energy source present? No! Solid wastes are another source of biomass energy. The use of this type of energy reduces the usage of fossil fuels that have bad effects on the environment and to you.

Additionally, bio-energy is affordable and is carbon neutral. When you burn the wood, it produces carbon which helps in photosynthesis. Furthermore, this type of energy decreases the amount of garbage in landfills.

But what I can inform you is that this type of energy isn’t 100% clean. But it’s safer than fossil fuels.

Biofuels

Bioethanol and biogas are biofuel energy sources that you can use at home and for commercial use. Currently, Brazil is one of the top bioethanol producers in the world, and its currently used in powering vehicles.

Biofuels are not only safe but reduce greenhouse emissions. This type of energy is efficient, cost-effective, and ensures car engines are durable. As a vehicle owner, you need to ensure that your vehicle’s engine is safe and the best fuel that will power your car is bioethanol.

Lastly, it reduces air pollution that is widely caused fossil fuels that power most vehicles globally.

Hydrogen Energy

For your information hydrogen is not a natural occurring gas like carbon or oxygen. To get it you need to extract it from other elements. When you separate it, you can comfortably use it as a source of energy. You can use it like electricity and fuel.

Separation is usually hectic but once you get the hydrogen energy you are sure that you will be using clean energy and effective. The extraction process is known as electrolysis. Presently, there are hydrogen fuel cells that are used in powering vehicle engines.

When you use this source of energy you are sure that it is non-toxic and prevents pollution greatly. It is efficient and NASA is using this type of energy to power space ships.

Hydroelectric Power (HEP)

Water is another source of energy. Hydroelectric power facilitates the production of electricity which is used at home and for commercial purposes. HEP is largely produced in dams and requires larges turbines to transform kinetic energy produced by water to mechanical power.

Then the generator converts the mechanical power into electricity. This type of energy source is clean and safe. Powering the generators will require fossil fuels but not as much. The only issue with this source of energy is that it destroys the underwater ecosystem.

Geothermal

This is more friendly source of energy unlike the use of fossil fuels that have a high negative effect on the environment. To get the geothermal energy you have to drill the ground to the core of the earth and the heat it generates is turned into electricity.

As of 2018, the global production of geothermal energy was at 13.3 Gigawatts. We expect that number to increase as more countries are embracing the production of electricity using geothermal.

Even though it doesn’t produce high amounts of carbon but it leads to the emission of dangerous elements to the environment like hydrogen sulfide and Sulphur dioxide.

Tidal Energy

This is another source of renewable energy. Tidal energy is produced when tides in the oceans surge thus producing kinetic energy. Turbines are installed to tap the kinetic energy which in turn converts it to mechanical energy which is then transformed to electricity.

Installing the systems to tap the tidal energy is currently expensive but few countries like Scotland are using this technique to harness electricity.

Natural Gas

Although not considered a renewable source of energy natural gas or compressed natural gas is safe than fossil fuels. In case it leaks it diffuses on the atmosphere without causing too many environmental effects.

Conclusion

The reason why you should consider the following alternative sources of energy is because they are environmentally-friendly. This is because they reduce the greenhouse gas emissions that have led to global warming. Embrace these energy sources for a conducive world.
