The Average Speed of different types of skateboards

When it comes to skateboarding, the words that pop up immediately in a rider’s head are probably speed, thrill, and adventure. It can be said that the speed of a skateboard is one of the factors that many skaters are concerned about, especially newbie skaters. Knowing what the average speed of a skateboard will help people make more well-informed decisions.

This article will give you the information about the speed of different types of skateboards, including electric skateboards. The good part is still below so please try to read it all!

In math and physics, we’ve learned how to calculate Average Speed and Average Velocity, right? But do you really understand what they mean?

I guess there are quite a few people who cannot distinguish these two parameters. So let’s take a few minutes to learn about them before delving into the numeric. Trust me, there will be times when you need this quick Math and Physics combined formula.

Average Speed = Total Distance/Total Time ( This shows how fast you are travelling)

Average Velocity= Total Displacement/Total Time (is speed in a given direction)

Based on the above formula, you can calculate the average speed of any board you want. Here are some of the boards that I tested and calculated their average speeds. Note my numbers and compare it with yours.

  • Skateboards for campus  in 2 miles distance: 8-12 mph
  • Expert skateboards with smoother wheels: 7.5 mph
  • Skateboards for travelling on 10+ mile distances: 5- 8 mph
  • Skateboards for cruising on 7 miles distance: 7mph
  • Longboard skateboards: 8-9 mph

For many, they buy a skateboard and hope it can go as fast as possible. Currently, electric skateboards are possibly the fastest of all types. Obviously, because they’re powered by motors and batteries. Below is a list of the fastest speeds for some types of skateboards such as Cruiser skateboards, Electric boards, One wheels, and Longboards. Hope this will help you make a more educated choice when buying your board.

  1. Electric skateboards are among the most popular micro mobility today. It is an individual transporter in the shape of a skateboard. Electric skateboards have a very high speed, equivalent to the speed of an electric bike or motorbike. Many designs attain speeds above 32 km / h (20mph). The highest skateboard speed recorded in the world is 95.83 km / h (59.55 mph). Fast and furious?

Boosted Boards is a well-known American electric skateboard/scooter manufacturer whose board speeds are the top. Their electric skateboard line includes the Boosted Board Dual + with a top speed of 22 mph (35.4 km / h). Next is the Boosted Board Dual that attains 20 mph (32km / h). And finally the Boosted Board Single with top speed 18mph (29 km / h).

The Onewheel is a family of electric skateboards. It only has a big wheel mounted in the middle of a wooden plank. Depending on the brand, the boards have different speeds. Some onewheel owners said they hit 26-28 mph sometimes.

  1. Cruiser Board:

This board is more meant to roll around than to perform tricks. A cruiser looks like a longboard, but is shorter in length. And because it moves with our pushing, cruiser skateboards are much slower than e-boards. The speed of a standard cruiser is between 5 – 7 mph.

  1. Longboard

Longboards are probably the longest board type of all. It provides more stability for riders. Longboards are faster than shortboards and cruiser boards due to their larger wheel sizes, lightweight construction materials, and more precise hardware. An average longboard has a speed of about 8 to 9 mph.

  1. Penny Boards

Penny Boards are also known as short cruiser boards whose decks are made of plastic. Penny boards have a slower speed than longboards because of their poor quality and smaller size.

  1. Shortboards

This board is usually small and short so it is often used for performing tricks. Small and hard wheels make the board run slower. The speed of the shortboard is perhaps 1-2 mph slower than the longboard.

Like I said, when you have an overall look at skateboard speed, you will have a more perfect choice. And this article has given you such an overview. The average speed formula is a strong tool that helps you calculate the average speed of your skateboard or whatever type of board you want.
