INTERVIEW: Peter Nemeth

:Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

In 2005 I moved my family from Wagga Wagga NSW to Queensland to start a new life & not long after l became very unwell from some treatments I was taking for my liver. I was unable to work and became very depressed because I couldn’t provide for my family. In my despair I committed some crimes and went into prison for a couple of years. My wife left me while I was in prison and after being separated from my children and not knowing when I would see them again I wrote this song “Believe” as a guide for them to live by!

2:Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

There is a video currently out on YouTube

I am planning to create a new video that will better reflect the message and tone of the song.

3:Why naming the album after this song in particular?

I want people to believe in themselves and in their dreams. l want to send a message of hope and peace to the world. All the songs on this album aim to guide, heal, inspire, motivate and help each other in life and I thought the lyrics from ‘Believe’ summed up the album as a whole and so was deserving of the title track.

4:How was the recording and writing process?

The writing process was easy, l was in a prison cell playing my guitar and thinking of my children and the song just came to me. It took about ten minutes to write. The recording process was awesome with Rob Mackay from Pacific International Music in Hervey Bay Queensland. It took about a month to record with session musicians from Australia and America.

5:What role does Melbourne play in your music?

Melbourne is where it all began to get serious. I came out of an orphanage at age 15 & brought my 1st guitar from a flea market in Fitzroy for $10. I lived in Clifton Hill & Collingwood growing up on the streets. I would jam together with other musicians to songs by the Eagles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Gary Moore just to name a few. From metal to jazz, blues and classical we sit around all day just jamming. It was awesome fun. The music scene was huge in Melbourne from the late 70’s & 80’s & live music was everywhere.

6:What aspect of life in general did you get to explore on this record?

I got to explore all aspects of my life on this album. It has taught me to be a much better person to other people, and it continues to teach me every time I listen to it and I often listen to it to remind myself how l should be treating others. It’s really humbling for me every time I hear the album.

7:Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

I found the inspiration for most of the lyrics while being down & out in a prison cell missing my children, not being able to speak with them or communicate with them and not knowing if I’d ever see them again or what would happen to them. I wrote ‘Believe’ as a guide for them to live by that would teach them respect and honour, love and peace, and to believe in themselves and in their dreams.

I wrote ‘Hey You’, ‘Hiding Places’ & ‘Humpty Dumpty’ for people suffering from depression, isolation, loneliness, drug and alcohol issues and life’s challenges.

‘When You See Me Rising’ is a song written for the forgotten Australians, the boys and girls who grew up as Australian orphans. The song is a tribute to them so that they will never be forgotten!

I wrote ‘You Can Be Anything You Want To Be’ for everyone who has a dream but has been blinded by life or their dreams have been stolen or have faded away.

‘One United Love’ is about unity, it’s about standing together through everything that life throws at us and to keep rejoicing through the trials and tribulations of life helping each other while we are suffering whatever it is we are going through.

‘The Fires Still Alive’ is all about a broken mans passion for the people he loves and believes in. It’s a song to inspire the most broken person to keep focus on what is important to them.

8:What else is happening next in Peter Nemeth’s world?

I’m looking forward to working with other musicians in the future. I’m looking for people who are interested in my music to form a band or maybe even a duo. I also really love the acoustic version of my songs but I will continue as a soloist until I meet the right people I can collaborate with, people who ‘Believe’ in my music (excuse the pun)

Thanks guys hope you have a great day today.
